“Nice Place to Stay But Rooms Smell Like Cigarettes”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

I've stayed here twice for business and both times, I've been impressed with the cleanliness, the staff and rates. The breakfast and wifi are an added bonus although the wifi is terribly slow.

But the main reason I will not be choosing to stay here again is the smokey smell of the rooms. Each room is clearly marked as non-smoking but both times I've stayed there the lingering smell of cigarettes were in the rooms. I asked my co-worker if he experienced the same thing and he told me his room smelled like a smoker had been in there as well.

This hotel is clean comfortable pleasant and affordable. It is located close to BART and the freeways and has complimentary parking. The breakfast is complimentary and yummy. It was lovely to sit on the outside patio in the sun and enjoy breakfast. The staff is helpful and gracious.
This hotel is comfortable for families, singles, and business travelers.

All the staff whom we encountered were pleasant, cooperative and helpful, especially Jairo, Luis and Donna at reception. We obtained the type of room that we prefer.

The motel has an unusual layout: it is almost a circle with an internal garden courtyard in the center. Rooms face either the courtyard or low-rise businesses outside.

The lobby had an alcove with two computers (Windows and Macintosh) providing free Internet connection and printers for the use of guests. Since these were always available when we wanted to use them, we did not use the free room WiFi. The lobby also had free newspapers and tourist information.

Our room was on the upper floor, away from the front of the hotel (which faces North Main Street) and down the corridor from the lift-elevator. It faced out and overlooked an unpaved lane, the Contra Costa Canal Trail and the back of a car service center, all on one side of the hotel; consequently, there was no traffic or parking noise.

The room was spacious, clean and well-maintained. It had two double beds (which we found comfortable) with a table between on which was a lamp and a telephone. At the far end on one side was a chair and a work table with a reading lamp; opposite it was an easy chair and a floor lamp behind it. In front of the beds was a bureau with a shelf and three drawers below. On top was a flat screen TV providing about 24 channels, mainly sports, news and pay-to-view movies. The closet contained an iron and an ironing board. The window was single-glazed, partially slid open, and had privacy and room-darkening curtains. The room door admitted minor noise from activities in the corridor; however, nothing bothersome while we were there. The air-conditioning-heating-fan unit worked well. The room did not have a bar fridge or a microwave oven.

The bathroom had a full bath with wall shower, a hair dryer, and coffee-tea making facilities on the counter. It also included necessary toiletries. The hot water service worked well.

The tariff included a buffet breakfast (available in a pleasant, spacious dining area just off the lobby) from 6:30 a.m. till 9:30 a.m. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. till 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Being late risers, we would have preferred a finishing time of 10 a.m. on weekdays as well. The breakfast attendant generally replaced items as needed; however, tended to start clearing 5-10 minutes before the official closing time. The breakfast area also had coffee and tea available 24 hours a day.

The choice of breakfast foods included a standard range of items for this class of motel: orange, apple and cranberry drinks; three types of regular coffee and one decaffeinated, tea, milk, half-and-half and French vanilla creamers; four types of cereal, oatmeal; sausages or bacon, scrambled eggs or omelets; yogurts; muffins, pastries, bagels, bread, toast; butter, margarine, cream cheese, jam and peanut butter; waffles and syrup; bananas and apples.

The motel has free parking, both under cover and outside. Some other hotels in the Walnut Creek-Concord area charge for parking — and some of the rates are excessive! Check your bill before leaving the motel to ensure that the phone system has not charged you for free local and toll-free calls.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms are on the top floor away from the front of the building (which faces North Main Stree...

We looked at all the more glamorous properties within 0.5 miles of this property and found this hotel to be small, clean, modest, incredibly fairly priced, and with a daily breakfast that just couldn't be matched. We were visiting family in WC and this gave us a quiet clean room with great shower, free parking, breakfast, even a pool and Jacuzzi. It made our family visit so convenient! The room rate actually dropped on the weekend, so we stayed extra days. This is our new go-to when visiting family in the East Bay.

We stayed for 6 nights at this hotel. The first night we had a corner room next to the Interstate. It was quite noisy. I asked to change and they were very accommodating. The second room was on the opposite side and we did not have steet noise. Unfortunately, the HVAC unit fan on low was extremely loud. The walls are not well insulated and being on the first floor you could hear noise overhead and in the hallway. Nice parking garage under the hotel. Breakfast had a few more items than an average continental breakfast hotel. Nice location, Chick Filet next door. Good thing!!! We found very few TV channels. Internet was good.

Room Tip: Ask for room on Main Street side.

Stayed here for a night in a King Size room.

Pros
-------
-Clean room
-Friendly staff
-Free wifi with good speed - tested at ~7mbps down and 10mbps up

Cons
-------
-Loud! Road noise + people walking in the room above. Very noisy overall.
-Flat screen TV, but no HD channels, and ALL local channels were just a black screen...so I had 10 or so channels, and 4 of them are variants of ESPN.
-Not too much within close walking distance.

Room Tip: Get one on the 2nd floor so you don't have to listen to people walking around above you!

Matt D,

Thank you for taking the time to post a response. We always want to hear form our guests.
I am sorry that you experienced noise and television issues. Let me offer my apologies. We did have a National Outage with our service provider Lodgenet, regarding the local channels, that has been resolved and we are in the process of upgrading to HD channels and increasing our overall channel selection.
Thank you for staying with us and providing your valuable feedback.

I hope to see you in the near future.

Thank you
