“Great Italian Atmosphere, Hit and Miss on Food”
Reviewed November 3, 2011

We frequent Il Fornaio quite often because the restaurants in both San Francisco and Walnut Creek are beautiful and great meeting places for friends. When the weather is nice, the outdoor dining is lovely. The seasonal specials are hit and miss. Three items that are consistently delicious are the beet salad, the pumpkin ravioli, and the zambione. The service is always friendly, and reservations are highly recommended. They have a very nice wine list. Bar drinks have not won any raves from my colleagues or me.

Sign up for their passport program. Dine in all six regions and you may win a trip to Italy. At the minimum you’ll be invited to a hosted wine party with other Il Fornaio patrons.

“Soup and a Salad, Great!”
Reviewed September 30, 2011

Great place for appetizers, soup and salads. We shared a Rustichella, (bread with stuff on it!) lots of the famous Il Fornaio breads served with olive oil and Basalmic Vinegar and of course ice cold water. The spinach salads offered fresh spinach, walnuts, and stuff but needed a touch of the Basalmic Vinegar to really make it stand out, otherwise it was a bit bland and needed help. The House Salad needed nothing, it was great with salad dressing and fresh lettuces. Our soup of the day was Lentil and it was really flavorful and served hot. Overall it was a wonderful afternoon for light eating. Carol, our waitress, kept us in water, bread, olive oil, vinegar, and parmesan cheese. She was delightful and non-threatening as far as our spending all the time we wanted for talking and eating.

When we went there the servers were very attendant. While we waited for our food we had appetizers so we weren’t starving. The minestrone soup appetizer was just the right size and had many vegetables in it. The broth of the soup its self was very flavorful. The main dish was great. The pizza that I ordered was crunchy and had good flavor. The pasta that my family ordered was delicious and well presented. It had the right amount of sauce and the pasta was cooked al-denta - perfect. I liked this restaurant a lot and would be happy to go there again.

“Not a top ten restaraunt”
Reviewed December 24, 2010

Had Xmas eve lunch. They were great at accomodating our party on an evenings notice. However, they brought us a different bottle of wine then we ordered. Insisted it was the right wine, although it wasnt and still charged us for it. They were slow on clearing the table and 2 of the dishes were not even hot enough to have been served at the table. I mild apology at the end did not compensate for a meal that didnt go the best. I would not consider this a top ten eating establishment.
