Description: Va de Vi translates to "It's all about wine!" in Spain's Catalan language. Of course, it's all about food, too! Chef Brad Zeller's menu encourages diners to explore and share a variety of eclectic, international small plate portions. Bold tastes encourage diners to explore the large international wine list, easily navigated by tasting notes. Many wines are offered by the glass in addition to pre-arranged flights to allow diners to compare different wines and discover new favorites. A warm, casual elegance defines the ambiance. Outdoors, dine under an ancient oak tree or grab a table in the picturesque lane.

“Nice quiet spot in Walnut Creek”
Reviewed April 30, 2014

Secluded wine bar/small plates place right in the heart of Walnut Creek. The staff is super friendly. Wines by the glass are really good, albeit a bit pricey. Try the buratta and the potato gnocchi, it's delicious.

“Tapas with a Northern Californian twist”
Reviewed April 28, 2014 via mobile

We were very fortunate to be invited by local friends to join them at Va de Vie for dinner a week ago. We enjoyed the exceptionally generous portions across a wide variety of dishes. There was something to please all tastes as my wife is largely veggie and found plenty to her liking. From my perspective being a great meat eater and shellfish fiend there was plenty to fight for! Wines were served in half flights or full flights of three different wines. I chose the Staff recommendation of whites and reds (half) and thoroughly enjoyed the Merlot, the Zin. and the Pinot as well as the Sancerre as well as the California Sauvignon.

As I didn't pay I'm not sure what the bill came to but the prices seemed reasonable and our server was very knowledgable and enthusiastic. If we return to Walnut Creek, we will make a beeline for Va de Vie!

“Sometimes very good, sometimes not so much”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

This restaurant has a great atmosphere and sometimes the food can be very good. Other times, it's completely mediocre. The cost can get a little high here, so it's very disappointing when it's not so good. One thing that is consistent is the indifferent service. Drinks can be good here, too.

“Fun Place, Great Food”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

This is a great place to go with a few friends. Not ideal for a large group. They serve small plates (tapas) which are always beautiful presented and very good. They offer tastings of wine flights. Ask them to turn the identifiers (little paper disks on wine stem) upside down and have a little competition among your group of friends to see who identifies the most wines correctly. The restaurant offers limited seating outside which is always special on warm summer evenings. I would not recommend taking children to this restaurant.

“still delish!”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

menu has changed with recent change in chef - more Mediterranean influence rather than Asian. quality of wine flights has declined slightly but still great variety for tastings or by the glass. food is still delicious! chef's table is always fun!
