“Clean, fresh and very sporty!”
Reviewed April 3, 2012

This hotel is sparkling clean from the lobby to the grounds and especially the rooms. Very fresh-looking decor throughout the hotel and in the rooms. The linens and towels all have a very luxurious feel to them. The amenities are all top-notch, and the bed is every bit the equal of the Westin Heavenly Bed (my go-to comparison of excellence!) for comfort. This is also a quiet hotel despite being close to the BART station; rooms are very quiet.

Every person you come into contact with seems happy and eager to help. Service is always swift and definitely with a smile.

That's enough to justify a five-star rating, but the best part of this hotel is the Club Sport workout facility. Once again, cleanliness is evident. The place is huge, with cardio stuff out the wazoo (treadmills, steppers, ellipticals, bikes, you name it), weight machines, free weights, racquetball, huge outdoor pool for laps, spin cycle rooms, basketball court...I think you're getting the picture.

Add to all the equipment, classes for water aerobics, spin, yoga and on and on. All included in the price of the room. If you like keeping fit while traveling, this place is a mecca. My wife likes waterobics and she loves the classes, several each day. I like the weights and ellipticals, and even when it looks like there are plenty of people in the huge main floor, you can always find a machine.

The only caveat is parking/valet service. The free parking garage is somewhat inconvenient and I had a hard time figuring out how to stay on the 'free' side. We have tried valet parking on previous stays but it was slow (generally 15 minutes minimum to get your car) and expensive ($19 per day). The slowness isn't because the valets themselves aren't trying; they hustle and run like crazy; it's more the parking garage setup than lack of effort. I know the valet expense isn't much compared to New York City, but come on, this is Walnut Creek, California. I'd probably do self-park again.

The parking is really minor when you put it in the context of a really super hotel with a great health club to use.

Stayed here thanks to a free night when airline stranded us. A bit too far from SFO but clean and nice workers. Should allow self park. Juan in restaurant was WONDERFUL. Weird concept to have a workout club sttached to hotel and found weights in rooms strange. Overall good for a free night.

Beautiful hotel! Rooms are huge and immaculate. The bathrooms have plenty of light and room for your things. Beds were the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Staff is always helpful and friendly. The gym is the nicest gym I have ever been in - tons of equipment and everything is new and hi-tech. Olympic size pool allows for swimming laps and there are many group fitness classes. 3 minute walk to BART which can take you to San Francisco or even the airport. Downtown San Francisco is only 30 minutes by car with no traffic.

Great location, great property. Very impressed.

This property has a very upscale, contemporary feel...Modern decor, spacious rooms, lots of amenities...Our room lacked a patio, which would have been nice. The "sport" aspect is a big feature here and it seems as if you're staying in a fitness center...Off the lobby a steady stream of fitness-club members come and go to use the pool, the gym, the spa, etc. Very attentive and helpful staff. Hotel is set in a nice neighborhood, easily accessible to convenience stores, restaurants, etc. I liked the valet parking but didn't like the $19 a day mandatory rate. Next time I'll look for parking across the street !

This is my 3rd stay at this particular property, and it won't be my last. I had business to conduct in San Francisco. Knowing that the Bay Area Regional Transit (BART) was near by, I elected to stay out of the big city that has such crazy hotel rates, commute in and stay in a property that I knew I loved. I stayed for 3 nights this go around and wish that I could stay even longer.

First of all, I felt very well taken care of right from the start. I am a federal employee and the government rate was well within my allotted budget. Even way better than a lower level quality property that didn't even come close to the amenities that came complimentary this property provides. I could not afford to splurge on extras to include parking fees. Did not have to pay for any extras. Convenient self parking is available at no charge, or you can have a valet park your car for $19 per day.

More on the amenities... Free Internet service! Finally this is being included. Free water bottles. Nice to not be insulted by seeing $4 stamped on a bottle of water... I mentioned the parking options already... As I checked in, they advised me that since I was an Elite member, that breakfast was on them. Their breakfast is awesome! It's not the powdered eggs and bacon bits... Real eggs to include eggs to order, thick bacon, sausage, oatmeal, fruit, beverages. A newspaper was at my door this morning. The gym is amazing. I only used it one time just because of my busy days and laziness to follow. It is a full size sports club with racquet ball, basket ball, huge lap pool, spa, you name it!

Only one complaint and let me say right off the bat, it was handled immediately. Noisy neighbors! The walls separating our two rooms must have been extra thin. I could hear everything. But I do not blame the hotel for this rather I blame rude inconsiderate people who forget that other people come to hotels to rest and relax. I called and whined to the staff... They said they will take care of it and they indeed did.

Having the BART near by was perfect. I did very little driving, saved tons of money which I must say saved us tax payers a few bucks :), all thanks to this wonderful place. I almost always have good experiences with Marriott brand properties which is why I will continue to look for their brand when I travel. Thank you Marriott and thank you especially to the Walnut Creek Renaissance Hotel!

PS... A very nice touch with the hand written "thank you" from Debbie. It's the little things and you guys have really done a good thing recognizing this fact.

Love this gym!! Like an equinox. Not too crazy about the customer service to be honest, but this place is clean with a great crowd. They have water boys that come around with fruit infused water. never gets too crowded here

Best Marriott propert we've ever stayed at. Proximity to public transportation is awesome. Restaurants are easily accessible in downtown Walnut Creek & Pleasant Hill. Very clean property with great gym facilities @ no additional charge. Only drawback would be the $19/night valet parking. It should be included in price of hotel; simply a way for hotel to increase nightly rates without doing so directly. Other than that, it's a highly recommended property. Valet fee can be avoided by simply parking in shared lot of Urban West. Exact same lot as hotel parking. Ask hotel reception and the will explain details of parking arrangements.
