When you go out, one of the blessings is having a variety you probably wouldn't make for yourself at home. Between their special tapas and the regular menu, it took us a while to narrow it down to 4 - the most we can usually eat. Each one was presented beautifully and unexpected, delicious flavors dazzled our tongues. For those wanting a larger meal, many are available and the sandwiches looked like a great option for the kids at the tables around us. It is quieter in the back room, but if you want an upbeat vibe, sit near the bar in front. This is a unique place - I haven't tasted flavors like this in a long time. When you want Asian, but not the usual, try this Vietnamese-French blend. I hear happy hour is a great value too.

There is no doubt that Vanessa’s on Main St. in Walnut Creek has the best options for Happy Hour. Many of the small plates that are regularly on the menu are only $3-5 with beer and wine under $5.00 a glass. For dinner ask to be seated in the back room. It’s quieter. Our waitress suggested trying the two specials of the night which were non-Asian. Neither were highlights. Stick to the Asian dishes as they are truly scrumptious and great shared. Prices are inexpensive for a truly satisfying meal.

Good place for casual business meeting during happy hour.

On a Friday night, the crowd at VB2 were young and trendy, or they were friends/co-workers just hanging out, enjoying the happy hour. My partner and I were there for an romantic dining experience, and for their fusion Asian tapas. The place looks small and narrow when you enter the front door, but actually there is another room in the back that could seat larger parties. VB2 decor was contemporary furnished with some original art pieces that reflects the people and places of Vietnam. At first, we felt like we were being neglected by the servers, because they assumed that we have already been served. Until, one of the owner came up to us and asked us if we have been helped; we said, "no". He sincerely apologized to us for the neglected service. He waived our corkage fee and from that point on, he made it his priority to personally serve us for the rest of that night. We thought he was very professional and considerate, and he made us feel very welcomed at his establishment.

The Vietnamese tapas was very good, and they have an excellent wine selection. When we think of tapas, we think of small plates, however their portions were reasonably decent, and five tapas filled us up. I thought our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. We really liked the spicy Atlantic salmon tartare, Ahi tuna carpaccio, crispy Saigon chicken rolls, and the crispy salt & peppered tofu. We liked how the chef put a modern-twist to these popular traditional Vietnamese dishes. He gave it that Californian flare, and the presentation was presented deliciously and nicely.

We were kind of disappointed at first when the servers ignored us in the beginning, but the owner made it up with his sincere apology, and his personalized service and attention. My conclusion, the food was really good, the place looks nice, and the price was right. We left the place quite satisfied and happy.

This place was very trendy with nice art, furnishings, and serving pieces. The food wasn't that good. Tried the Pad Thai. It wasn't anything like pad Thai...just noodles and vegetables. My wife had a shredded green papaya salad that she enjoyed. She also enjoyed the coconut curry. The tofu and green beans were smothered in giant chunks of onions drowning the flavor of the dish. Beer selection was limited: only one beer on tap. Large coctail selection. Service was good. Okay to try once, but will not return.
