Friday nite find while on the prowl for live dinner music.....Cypress squarely hit the mark. Lots of good and various continental choices, we opted for our usual split of one appetizer and one entree.....on this visit a half-order of huites rockefeller followed by a skirt steak. We favor our oysters extra-well and our meat charred-rare....and the Chef hit them both with aplomb. Bonus points too on the steak as the kitchen split the dish into two plates....with together having really generous portions of green beans and roasted potatoes, surely way more than the quantum any single diner should eat if served for one.
The restaurant itself has actually some diverse spaces to it dominated by the main open room.....we sat in the sweet spot at high cocktail tables off to the left of the bar and near the piano player, who was very good and taking requests. The central dining area adjoins seamlessly with a comparatively-more-private section of a few tables behind the back wall. There is also a smaller in-the-round cubby space off to the right of the bar, and a larger outdoor patio where they were showing movies on the wall.....very tres-Cannes-chic!
On this evening, clientele was flowing with hip harlots in-toe everywhere especially at the bar, the older set in the piano space, and even a graduation party in the main dining area, We also peaked at the outdoor patio on the way out.....more of a date-nite crowd vibe but single 20s/30s there too.
Service was good albeit the large party dominated the service staff and our entree took some time....but it did not detract as we enjoyed the drinks, music, and the overall scene.
As new to the East Bay since Jan, we have hit lotsa targets on the Rockridge-Lamorinda-Walnut Creek nite-life circuit.....and Cypress indeed gets our multple repeat list.
TIP: We did not partake but watched as multiple diners had Steak Diane, Strawberries Flambe, and other table-side-prepared specialties generally found in venues that charge way more than the tarriff at Cypress.
TIP2: There are also purported midweek specials for martini nites and reduced-price appetizers.
