Restaurant was clean, food was plentiful and tasted fantastic and the service was friendly and efficient. Everyone was there to enjoy good, local food. The 24 min parking is not enforced! An oasis in an otherwise area devoid of charm. Don't let the neighborhood scare you away. This place deserves your enjoyment!

We visited Joy of Eating on a Sunday afternoon when we found our usual local diner closed. Even though we arrived probably 10 minutes before closing time at 2:30 pm, we (3 adults, 2 small children) were treated graciously and never felt we were being rushed.

Food portions were very generous and well prepared. This is not gourmet dining, but the food was prepared from fresh ingredients. We really had more than we could eat, even though none of us had eaten since early morning.

The only flaw in our service (understandable given our late arrival) was the omission of a cup of decaf coffee. But we wouldn't let that be a reason not to visit again.

If you can get a seat then you are in for some good food, they also make their own bread, buy a loaf or two.

We arrived at 9:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning to find the restaurant 2/3 full. Another 10 minutes and we would have had to line up to dine. The service was friendly and competent, the menu easy to navigate, and the food was amazing and copious. The French Toast, made from the house (homemade bread) is exceptional, and 3 slices cut in half is WAYYYYY too big a serving, when you include eggs and bacon. Nevertheless, working hard, we managed to polish it off, mostly. I chose the Chicken Fried Steak and eggs, which came with home potatoes (think hash browns that are homemade and sprinkled with green onions--amazing take on a normally tired side) and two slices of toast (did I say that the bread was homemade?). The bill was very modest, and this place is a fantastic stop if you happen to be in Vallejo. We waddled out to the car after eating and will tell our friends about JOEC.

Finally found a GREAT breakfast/lunch spot. First homemade corned beef hash that tasted the way it should!! Eggs were perfect and the waitress forced us to try the bread pudding ( she didn't have to force too hard) in a Kaluha sauce. I work in the area and plan to become a regular.
