“Pretty Typical Greek Fare”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

Not much room to sit and eat. I found the food to be pretty typical - the service was fast though. I am pretty particular about my humus and I did not like theirs - but that is just a matter of taste - I like creamy and this was chunky....

“Great Greek Food in Ukiah! Yeah!”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Don't expect a fancy restaurant. It's not gourmet. Expect really good basic gyros. Some stuff is pre-made and some stuff isn't. If your wondering ask, you'll get an honest answer. Don't expect american huge portions either. However, I have two (big) sixteen year old sons and both of them are satisfied with a Lamb Gyro and side of fries for lunch or dinner. If your use to the supersized meals, well order two. The prices are low.

“delicious, great service and value”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

The title says it all! Food is delicious, service is great and so are the prices! It is a "humble setting" and you may get your food to go but it is very, very good and the service is speedy.

“It's Spiro's, not Sprios...and it's great!”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

Billyabe writing again, because the typo is just driving me nuts--and Spiro's deserves better! It is the kind of neighborhood place you grow up with and remember as having the greatest food ever. And you would be right!

“Terrific gyros in humble setting”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

Spiro's (NOT Sprios!) is hardly a restaurant at all--it is almost literally a hole in the wall and it is open at what seems to be whimsical hours. Seating is beyond basic--there is a table or two with what passes for chairs. Decor is one out-of-date Greek photo calendar.

But the gyros! They are so fantastic you will not believe such a relatively unsophisticated location as South State Street could attract such flavors. (The truth is Spiro's makes a substantial portion of his business with a portable gyromobile at fairs & concerts.)

I have never had a better gyro, and I grew up near Greektown in Detroit and the Salina District in Dearborn. Prices are moderate (a bargain for what you are getting!) Service is usually from Spiro and if you like old gruff guys with a heart of gold, you will love it. (He knows all his regulars by name & family.) Sometimes the gruff predominates, but if you give him a little time--have a glass of lemonade and chat for a minute--you will make a friend.

There are other specialties on the menu, all good but not at the level of the gyros. Enjoy!
