This was our first time in Ukiah and this part of California, so although being a Hhonors Diamond member, I still relied on the Tripadvisor reviews to select this property for our stay.
The previous reviews are correct - this is a very very nice property, and spotlessly clean. The hotel is conveniently located just off of US101, opposite a Walmart, adjacent to Crush Italian restaurant, and walking distance to Applebees, always a good standby.
A nice touch was Diamond Elite level parking adjacent to the door. My mother is not as young as she once was, but does not qualify for a blue badge - so elite level parking was a boon. I had not seen this privilege at a Hampton Inn before - may be it is standard now, but it impressed me!
The lobby and breakfast area in this Hampton were in a state of flux. The breakfast area is being refurbished and areas of the lobby are work areas. That said, the lobby still looked smart and the staff we encountered were friendly and very helpful.
The room was standard Hampton - functional, and we had a room with a balcony overlooking the pool and the mountains. The room would not be out of place at an HGI.
The two issues I had were with the room. The pillows were not comfortable at all. It was hard to determine which was the firm and which was the soft, as all were equally uncomfortable...one pillow was too low and I got stuffed up, but two pillows on top of one another was too high and rigid, and led to a painful neck. My parents, travelling with me, always travel with their own pillows so had no issues. I tend to travel light, and carry my own pillow does not work - but I wish I had it here.
The other was the inability of housekeeping to count. We had booked the room for 3 adult occupancy, so this should not have been a surprise. But the room, on check in, was fitted out with two paper cups, 4 bath towels, 2 wash clothes and 2 hand towels. So a visit to reception was required to get a 3rd hand towel and wash cloth. Suffice to say that when housekeeping cleaned the room the next day, we were left with two paper cups, 2 hand towels and 2 wash cloths... so another visit to reception was needed. There was no issue in getting extra towels etc, but I should not have needed to!
We did not eat breeakfast at the hotel - I am not huge fan of the Hampton breakfast - we preferred to drive to Dennys up the road and indulge in the full American breakfast experience there. During our stay, breakfast was being served in a meeting room due to the refurbishment of the breakfast area.
Minor niggles aside, this was an excellent stay. The room was cozy, the location is convenient for day trips to wineries, Clear Lake, Mendocino and Fort Bragg. Everyone was friendly, and if back in the area, I will stay again. This property fully deserves its top rating in Ukiah, even with the suspect pillows!
