“Skip breakfast - grab one of their bakery items”

A little pricey and very average breakfast food, despite the charm of downtown Truckee. But grab one if their crisps (apple was tasty) and you come out on top.

“Breakfast at 5:30am with a smile!”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

Good, hearty, stick to your ribs breakfast and a wonderfully eclectic array of cookies. Discount for early breakfast. Don't miss it.

“Dangerous Choices”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

I live in Downtown Truckee. Wagon Train (which the locals call Gaggin' Train) is by far the worst restaurant in town, and may be the worst place to have breakfast I have ever been in my life. Not only is the food outrageously priced ( $13 for a two egg, hash brown, toast and bacon breakfast) the service is beyond terrible, it is rude, unprofessional and downright hostile, but the entire restaurant is a pig sty. The restroom seem to have never been cleaned.

But the biggest problem is that the owner, one notso smart fellow, is an angry, violent and dangerous guy. He is know in town for routinely flying off the handle and screaming at people, he has been heard threatening people with physical violence, has a history of physical violence, and his behavior is entirely unpredictable. Plus it is pretty damn clear from all the NRA point of sales material in the restaurant that he packs heat, and my personal knowledge of him tells me that he lacks the restrain to not use it.

Not only would I never recommend this restaurant under its current ownership, I would proactively warn people that they are taking both their health, and if they rise the ire of the owner, their life in their hands eating there.

All five choices downtown are better. Eat at Squeeze Inn, Coffee And, Jax Diner, Trokay Cafe or the Coffee Bar.

“Best breakfast of our entire trip!!!”
Reviewed August 12, 2012

Great little mom and pop type breakfast place!! The food was amazing! We were in the Tahoe area for 5 days and this was our favorite breakfast! Several combination type plates. The wait staff was super busy but took the time to chat and offer suggestions for activities. Parking can be pricey but everywhere around Tahoe is like that.

“Stay Away!”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

It seem to me all the food was over priced ($12.00) for a hot dog! I tried the chili, sent it back, settled for the soup of the day which had the toughest chicken I have ever had. My companion tried the soup and salad bar (which had little to offer) and she could eat the chicken, to hard to chew. It was a really bad experience.
