This was a great hotel for the money. We traveled to Truckee for white water rafting. this hotel was centrally located for our needs and a very easy drive to Lake Tahoo. Hotel was very very clean and the staff was so pleasant.

My husband and I are pretty easy travelers - we look for a clean room and a pleasant place to stay and enjoy a nice breakfast in the morning. If you are looking for that, don't stay here. From the moment we walked it felt like we weren't welcome - no greeting, no eye contact, no smile, no small-talk, just, "I need to see a credit card." Same experience on the way out. The people at the front desk looked like they'd rather be doing anything OTHER than being at work. The breakfast was so-so at the best. They were out of cups and I asked if they had more. The lady looked at me like I had 3 eyeballs and said, "No" and then just kept staring at me. For $190 a night I'd at least expect a smile and greeting upon entering their business and, hey, maybe even a cup for my coffee.

We've stayed here several times over the years because of it's convenient location for the Donner Lake Swim. I believe it used to be a Holiday Inn Express and we found it to be just fine, but it has changed hands and really gone downhill while the price has gone uphill. We hadn't been for a few years and this time we were very disappointed. We were put into a room with a shower that was in the middle of being repaired and thus not functional. The person checking in before us got a room that was still occupied by other people. Continental breakfast, included in the room price, was served starting at 6:30, but when we got there the offerings we generic grocery store muffins, bagels, cereal, yogurt. No hot water. Around 7:15 they brought out biscuits and gravy, yuck, and fruit - - bananas that were completely green and inedible. With tax our room price came to $185. Definitely not worth it and such a disappointment. The hotel was clean, but management needs to do a better job.

Room Tip: You have a choice of looking at the freeway or looking at the State Park. You don't hear freeway...

We have stayed here many times, multiple nights each time. This was our first visit since it is no longer a Holiday Inn Express. New owner has nicely redecorated rooms making them very comfortable. Even though it is off I-80, it is a quiet location. There is a Taco Bell within walking distance and also a local convenience store. Just a few minutes drive into Truckee, lots of good restaurants and shopping. Breakfast is adequate but not exceptional.

My husband and I stayed one night prior to our daughter's wedding. The room was clean and comfortable, good beds. A couple minor complaints I have are that the lighting was VERY dim - trying to read in a chair or the bed was very difficult; also the shower was not very satisfying - the water pressure may be low and the shower heads definitely need to be upgraded. The breakfast was adequate, not exceptional. I loved that you could walk right into the Donner State Park next door for a nice morning walk. Overall a good value for the area.

We stayed 3 days. Clean room that smelled good. Walking distance to the lake. Close to all the stores and 15 min to Lake Tahoe. Always enjoy a cup of coffee I didn't have to make. Had a washer and dryer that was clean and accessable. The room was cleaned each day and new towels were out. Didn't need to ask for anything. The service was good for the price. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the back. Quieter and nicer view.

Pretty much everything about my experience was a B plus. Maybe a B for value. As with many hotels, the 'free' breakfast seems to be included so they can say they offer a free breakfast. It's not very good. And why bother with the coffee if you're going to serve below average Joe? Bed was good, not great, shower, decent, pillows,/sheets pretty good. And, it was $140. Not really worth it.

Room Tip: get a room that looks out on the woods, not the highway.
