“Pretty but not my personal taste”
Reviewed September 21, 2007

It was just 'OK" but that's just our personal taste. We prefer more of an elegant luxury.....not worth what we spent but it was clean and that was good.

My wife and I stayed for a few days between a visit to Yosemite and then Mammoth.

We were first attracted by the architecture and interiors. A local architect, Ken Meffan, has done a great job of creating a striking property which is both contemporary and comfortable. The owners were very involved in the design and construction--and have done a great job (and I'm a critical architect!)

Rooms are tastefully done. If you want overdone Victoriana, look elsewhere. If you seek striking design which is still inviting, this is it.

Patti, Jeff and staff were very friendly, helpful, and attentive, but never hovering. Any request was cheerfully accommodated.

Breakfasts were a notch above, as were the complimentary afternoon snacks. Cocktails were excellent.

For us, it was the best of both a B&B and a well-run hotel. Like a B&B, it was intimate and unique, but absent the intrusiveness of chatty hosts. Like a well-run hotel, all needs were accommodated, but one never felt like just another guest.

  • Liked — Great design. Warm owners and staff.
  • Disliked — Lack of street-adjacent landscaping.

Was invited as a guest with some friends. Have been to many European boutique hotels and this one seems like a very bourgeois imitation of the real thing. The furniture is uncomfortable and almost tacky. The bed was fine but everything else was just mediocre. Definitely not Villa Sassa Hotel Residence & SPA or Skt. Petri Hotel or other such wonderful places. Definitely would not stay again and would not recommend to anyone who is looking for a truly luxurious boutique experience.

  • Liked — Nothing really
  • Disliked — It was just inferior

We spent two nights at the The Cedar House Sport Hotel. From the helpful staff, to the architecturally interesting structure to the terrific breakfasts, everything went about as well as a hotel stay could. I'll be back for sure!

Fiancee and I stayed here for a pre-Valentine's Day weekend. We arrived late in the night and were warmly greeted by the owners. Found our room, which was warm and the bed turned down. Personally I love the decor - the juxtaposition of modern and mountain lodge works very well here. The bed was extremely comfortable. The shower took a few to figure out, but it was luxurious. The next morning the front desk helped us with our plans for the day, and when we came back the bar was warm and inviting. We loved this place so much we're spending Labor day weekend here again. Much easier then renting a cabin, and the friendly people and fun atmosphere really make it appealing.

In Truckee for a wedding which was held at another hotel where we would have preferred to stay but by the time we tried to book our room, there were none available. This hotel was nice but for the amount of time we spent there, it was not worth what we had to pay for it.

  • Liked — Outside was pretty except for the location
  • Disliked — Room decor

It's lovely if you don't mind shelling out a hard-earned penny. We didn't have a choice because every other hotel in Truckee was sold out for the weekend. I don't believe that it is valued at what the cost is but the skiing was great that weekend and Truckee was beautiful.
