Owner description: For the modern family that prefers substance with a unique, laid-back style, Northstar California Resort combines California cool with high-end luxury, on-mountain exhilaration with a sophisticated alpine village atmosphere. Halfway between one of North America's coolest mountain towns and one of the world's most beautiful alpine lakes, Northstar is a destination on the rise, having poured nearly a billion dollars into creating Lake Tahoe's premier luxury snowsports experience. Upscale shops, refined dining and Lake Tahoe's only five-star slopeside lodging is married to impeccable grooming, incredible tree skiing and enough variety to challenge every level of skier (and world-class terrain parks to keep the kids busy). Those who come to Northstar know what they're looking for. Sometimes it's adventure, sometimes it's to learn, sometimes it's to relax in a welcoming place with family and friends. No matter what that experience is, they'll find it to be exactly the way it should be.

Beautiful resort but like most resorts is over priced. The sushi place is amazing. A bear walked by while we were eating dinner.

I visited over Labor Day weekend. My wife, dog and I took the gondolas nearly to the summit and walked the hiking trails for hours. It took 2 gondola rides to get there. $10 each for my wife and I (dog was free). Beautiful hiking up there. The top part of the mountain had mostly chair lifts which dogs aren't allowed on, but a gondola comes every 4 minutes on the same line that accommodates dogs. The staff was surprisingly helpful pointing out where we needed to go with a dog. All the staff! Young and old, all super helpful and friendly. Kudos to the hiring manager. The hiking trails are nicely separated from the bicycling trails which my son has ridden in the past and loved it. We went here to go hiking over the Labor Day weekend and saw very few people on the scenic trails. Believe it or not, go to Northstar to escape the crowds and do some great hiking. One last thing about the staff. There was a bike race up there and an employee rescued me from a long lift ticket line and pointed out that I could purchase a hiking ticket in the equipment shop with no line. He must have noticed we were hikers and not bicyclists who needed to register in the line I was in. Saved me a 1/2 hour. Good for Northstar for having plenty of staff to notice this. Even though there are a lot of cyclists (I am an avid road bicyclist) there is plenty of room for everyone.

We skied Northstar last spring break. Had been a relatively light winter but fortunately for us it snowed heavily each of the two days that we were there. The best thing about Northstar is how uncrowded it is. For many runs we were the only people on the trail! There were no lift lines to speak of and they use a cool system where you don't have to actually dig out your ski pass. The lift attendant scans you and the hand held device picks up your pass. There is a small village that you can take a gondola down to that has nice shops, restaurants and an ice skating rink. All in all I would definitely go back to Northstar for another ski trip

Great place to take the family on a ski vacation. Great terrain for all levels. They have three well maintained terrain parks as well.

Great place for spring skiing. A perfect all around family mountain. Lots of slope variety and plenty food and entertainment options both on and at the bottom of the mountain. A little bit of a melt at the time we were there but we were told not like that in past years
