Owner description: For the modern family that prefers substance with a unique, laid-back style, Northstar California Resort combines California cool with high-end luxury, on-mountain exhilaration with a sophisticated alpine village atmosphere. Halfway between one of North America's coolest mountain towns and one of the world's most beautiful alpine lakes, Northstar is a destination on the rise, having poured nearly a billion dollars into creating Lake Tahoe's premier luxury snowsports experience. Upscale shops, refined dining and Lake Tahoe's only five-star slopeside lodging is married to impeccable grooming, incredible tree skiing and enough variety to challenge every level of skier (and world-class terrain parks to keep the kids busy). Those who come to Northstar know what they're looking for. Sometimes it's adventure, sometimes it's to learn, sometimes it's to relax in a welcoming place with family and friends. No matter what that experience is, they'll find it to be exactly the way it should be.

We've been going to Northstar for 10 years now. Every employee I have ever encountered is "friendly and professional." We stay at a residence in Northstar and they make it very easy to get around. The skiing is great and there are runs for every level. The live music in the Village is awesome, especially Ike and Martin. There's nothing likes sitting around the firepit listening to music, sipping a glass of wine or even better, try their famous Bloody Mary, it's to die for!

Such a wonderful place to take children and grandchildren for a fun afternoon of outdoor skating, something very unusual in California. The price is right--free--with a $10 skate rental. If you have your own skates, take them as the rental skate blades are fairly dull and not as easy to skate on. Go early for smaller crowds, but it doesn't open until noon. Also, the ice gets a little soft and chewed up as the day goes on. There are wonderful out door couches to rest on, and lovely firepits to warm you up. Oh yes, and there is live music to skate by. Just 1 1/2 hours from Sacramento.

Northstar is one of my favorite places to ski. I'm a solid intermediate, and there are lots of runs for me to enjoy. Snow quality is kept as good as they can. Staff is friendly.

What I like about Northstar is that almost all their runs, from blues to blacks are very wide and very long. This means that for those just building confidence on the steeper slopes they can take then on knowing they have a very wide space to work with. The sheer length of the runs means you get a great ride and if you take them non stop a real workout and some speed!
