Description: Set against the glorious backdrop of the majestic Sierra, our sixth restaurant blends fabulous scenery with equally fabulous sushi. Located in the heart of the village near the skating rink, it boasts decor that successfully blends contemporary Asian design with the ambiance of a European mountain lodge. The pale wood on the walls is enhanced by custom east-meets-west paintings by artist Terry Flanigan, a variety of Mikuni t-shirts, and an assortment of restaurant awards that we just had to display. If you're in the mood for a high-energy experience, by all means take a seat at the bar that sits in the center of the room. If a cozy meal is more to your liking, sneak off to a quiet booth or table and relax in your own little world.

“Incredible sushi considering how far it is from fresh fish:-)”

The initial hostess experience was a little snooty (she wouldnt let us pick our table) but the waiter was phenomenal and the sushi was excellent. The creativity of their rolls was amazing!

“Great Sushi!”
Reviewed February 16, 2013 via mobile

This restaurant never disappoints. The food is excellent and the service is excellent. The only thing I wish they would reconsider is their no reservation/first come first serve policy. We had a party of 8 and they wouldn't take a reservation. We waited about 45 min for a table, which was not the end of the world.... A great place, all the way around.

“Sheer Pleasure at the Ice Rink!”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Best idea: Pick up your Mikuni and step out the door and take a seat at one of the outdoor fireplaces next to the ice rink!

Amazingly fresh, great Mikuni at its best at Northstar!!

“Good Service - Overpriced”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

Although the service was fast and the server was pleasant, the food was overpriced and the portions were small. No special rolls. Food was just ok. The only good thing was the location. However, I have to question any Japanese restaurant that doesn't know what Sukiyake is. In a cold ski resort it would have been nice to have some hot soup with noodles. The price was typical of a resort location, expensive. Next time I will not even entertain the option of sushi while on a weekend getway in a ski resort.

“Fresh sushi, great flavors and family-friendly”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

We dine at Mikuni each time we come up to Northstar. It's family-friendly and the service is fast. We usually eat so much sushi that we're hard pressed to find a sushi restaurant that offers a "new take" on the standard rolls, but their take on sushi rolls - especially the "torched" rolls (where they flame the top of the roll) - are quite unique. In particular, I highly recommend the Heath Roll and the Train Wreck Roll - delicious!

However, this is not your modest neighborhood restaurant - be ready to pay the price.
