“Upscale lodging and a great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2013

This was our first trip to Tahoe: a spring break family ski trip the last week in March. We skiied 5 days and hiked 2. We had 2 rooms next to each other on the top floor with 5 adults and 5 kids (6yo-13yo). One room was a one bedroom with bunkbeds in the den and perfect for a family of four. The den is just a small room with a bunkbed, which was great for kids. They loved it and used it as their playroom. A little dresser or table in the den would have been helpful for storage. The other room was a 3 bedroom with views from every room that were to die for. Both rooms were absolutely beautiful, clean and well maintained. Location was perfect. With the gondola in the building you get first priority so you can skip the others in line. It really isn't a true ski- in ski- out like other mountains. You have to take the gondola from the lodge to get to the base of the mountain where the base lodge and other lifts are located. You can ski down on the trail but we were there in late spring and the snow was very slushy and heavy at the bottom with thin cover on many trails. Skiing was best in the am with temps in high 20's/low 30s but by 1pm it was 50-60 and very slow. Not crowded at all. We had a wide variety of skiers. There were not many green choices. My 6 and 8yo could handle the blues without any problems. Blacks were nice and steep. Could only do them in the am because the snow got too soft later in the day. The mountain is not as big as we expected, kind of short from top to bottom and everyone dumps out onto the same green trail. Kids absolutely loved the terrain park. Have fondue at the chocolate bar, drive around Lake tahoe, Hike the firewood trail in crystal bay (at the top you have a great view of Lake tahoe and the trail is half in Nevada, half in California). We had several little snafus with housekeeping, cable/tv issues, and some missing kitchen items but the staff was very helpful and gave us a free day of skiing which made up for our problems. The concierge was excellent and provided us with maps, hiking spots, and great dinner suggestions. Kids did the trampoline bungee jumping and loved it. Kids also liked the smores in the village and our daily trips to the candy shop. All in all, great family vacation but very expensive.

Room Tip: Not all one bedrooms have a den with bunkbeds, you have to request it.

Stayed at One Village Place for the New Year's holiday. Very nice and upscale units in the best location. I cannot say enough about the benefit of being in the Gondola building on a busy holiday weekend. There is ski storage next to the Gondola line, and you have your own personal line which goes to the front just for this building so no waiting. A huge perk since Northstar seems to be a bit overcrowded for the size of the mountain. Ski school drop-off was also right outside the door in front of the Chocolate Bar which was fantastic. The condo was perfect for a family of four, with one bedroom and two bathrooms, a pull-out couch and a small den with a small bunk bed. The kitchen was well stocked. Fitness room and hot tubs were nice as well. There is a small front desk and lobby area with coffee. I think this is the best location in the Village. There is also access to the village fitness center and pools which are quite small but have a small locker room with two showers and a lobby area with a pool table. We went a few times but could not shower after as there were only two showers and a huge number of kids running in and out of the steam room. I would not have wanted to be on the ice rink, as there were large crowds and bands everyday which would be really noisy if you wanted any downtime. Northstar is nice, but it seems with the addition of the new housing in the village there needs to be some expansion on the mountain. We have never spent so much time in lift lines. There is really only one way to the very top and it takes a gondola ride and two lifts so everyone is in the same line at some point. That is a real drawback when your only option for travel is on busy holidays. Great fireworks show on New Year's eve and the cabanas surrounding the ice rink are nice. People do camp out a bit, which can be annoying. The Starbucks is all but impossible to get into after 2pm - line wraps around twice and we actually saw people sleeping on the lounge chairs inside???

Room Tip: The 5th floor has high ceilings, less noise from neighbors and you can see the fireworks from the vi...

Thanks for your review & I'm happy to hear you had a nice stay. Yes, New Year's is a very popular & exciting time to be in Tahoe. Next time think about purchasing Fast Pass Priority Lane Access, which is especially nice during peak holiday times. One Village Place is another great secret for beating the crowds with the special gondola access. Hope to see you here again.

We stayed here for a spring break ski trip. We were in a 2 bedroom unit which was terrific! The condo is located in the same building as the gondola which is very convenient. There is also underground parking. Only negative is the elevator - it's relatively small - so if you are traveling in a group - it could take several trips. Overall a beautiful facility.

Thank you so much ro953 for taking the time to review your stay with us at One Village Place! I totally agree with you that staying at the gondola with your own private entrance just doesn't get much better over spring break! We look forward to seeing you again soon!

We had a wonderful time staying at The Village at Northstar in late June. The place is beautiful and the help is actually helpful. The facility was very clean and very comfortable. The location was convenient to Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake and many hiking trails...not to mention being perfectly located in the center of the resort. There were many choices for restaurants and shopping!!

Most people think of Tahoe as a winter destination. Well I am here to tell you that it is as enjoyable (if not more so) in the summer thanks in part to the incredible accommodations at One Village Place. From our beautiful condo, we had access to it all....the lake, wonderful hiking trails, good restaurants, fun shops, great views. I highly recommend a visit. We were there in mid-June and the weather was perfect. We were able to comfortably hike as well as lay by the pool.

The condo itself came equipped with every convenience. The kitchen was incredibly well stocked and we were able to create wonderful meals at home. The workout center was located right in the building and there were hot tubs inside and out.

Who could ask for anything more?

Room Tip: My friend, the skier, really enjoyed the view of the ski hill and gondola. Other views were equally...

We stayed in a beautifully appointed three bedroom condo right in the middle of the action. What a contrast between the quiet serenity of the condo nestled in the midst of the bustle of this magnificent resort. The shopping, dining and walking trails were all right outside our doorstep. Great concept!!!
