We stayed a the Donner Lake Village Resort in a Lake View Studio. First thing we noticed was a horrible smell (most likely because the kitchenette area was not cleaned very well.) The Studio was very dirty and most of the furniture was beatup. All walls were dirty and marked up, especially the bathroom where I found splattered toothpaste (not even close to the sink) and other unidentifiable chunks stuck to the walls. The table had crayon and permanent marker all over it. The toilet seat had half the paint worn off of it. The hair dryer had something sticky all over it - I had to wash it before my daughter would use it. The place reminded me of a poorly maintained motel 6 only it cost us $177 per night (unbelievable what they get a night for lodging in these ski resorts areas). The "lake view" was only partial. The cream colored curtains on the glass sliding door had no room darkening effect at all. We couldn't believe how bright it was in that room at 8am. At 8am we were all woken up by the maintenance people pulling huge boxes out of a supply room and literally dropping them on the floor right outside our door. They were also yelling to each other from across the corridor. The walls were paper thin. We could hear everything going on in the room next door. The hallways were all marked up and dirty. The shampoo and soap came out of those funky dispensers on the wall (I swear they were both spewing out the same product.)To sum it all up in a few words: dirty, poorly maintained, way overpriced. I wish I'd a thought to use my camera phone and take some pictures because this place was unbelievable. Stay somewhere else. The only positive was the beautiful Donner Lake. And, we did have a great day of snow riding.

Management response:Responded April 19, 2006

I've been the General Manager here for many years and have never received a complaint like this. I'm very sorry that the guest was so unhappy.
She complained about my staff being very noisy and yelling at each other at approximately 7:30 in the morning. My staff does not start work until approximately 8:30. The day she complained about my maintenance man did not work, he was sick. Maybe she heard another guest packing up. Again I apologize for the problems she experienced, but had she called us during her stay we would have been happy to see if wee could make her happy!
Thank You
