“A Quiet Refuge Amongst the Redwoods and near the Ocean”
Reviewed July 27, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

This was our second stay at this home. Last year, we joined our dear friends for 3 nights. We were able to return this year after a family gathering in Redding. Leaving family was difficult, but arriving to the fog-kissed coastal clime soothed our travel weary bodies.
We absolutely love this tranquil home. We cooked in the gourmet kitchen and enjoyed our morning coffee and crossword puzzles in the dining room. Three walls of windows offering views of the pond, the bridge, and the meticulously landscaped yards made it nearly impossible to concentrate on the puzzles before us.
After long days enjoying the nearby beaches, we relaxed and were warmed by the crackling wood fire in the fireplace. The upstairs loft was quite lovely, comfortable and spacious. Cindy, the property manager, met us at the house for check-in. She gave us a tour of the property and graciously made herself available to us, if needed. Likewise, our communication with the property owner, Lesley, has been a lovely experience.
The area has much to offer the outdoor enthusiast: hiking in nearby Redwood National Park, secluded beaches close to the hamlet of Trinidad, kayaking on the lakes and lagoons, and long walks on nearby Agate Beach. At just 2.5 miles down the road, Patrick's Point State Park offers miles of hiking trails, tide pool exploration and a Yurok cultural center. We hope to return again for a longer stay in the near future.

Liked best: The beautifully landscaped grounds and the peaceful tranquility of the place.
Liked least: The worried about staining the butcher block. We are happy to learn that the owner will be sealing it this fall.

“Fully stocked, comfortable, quiet cabin in a great location.”
Reviewed July 20, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

My wife and I chose this property because of the price, the photos, the location and the features offered. Everything that was offered was actually there. The location is ideal for beach, redwoods, tidepooling, and hiking. There's even some wine tasting nearby. Close to Trinidad yet off the beaten path and far enough from Hwy. 101 that noise was not an issue. The cabin was nicely decorated and it appeared that the owners lived there, though that's not the case. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need to prepare meals. And because we had our dog with us we chose to eat in much of the time. The refrigerator and pantry were also well stocked. The wireless internet was strong and reliable. We streamed Pandora music the entire time without any problems. Firewood was abundant, the charcoal grill was handy, and the house heated very easily in the cold mornings. Our favorite room was the dining room. Surrounded by large windows, it offered a wonderful view of the pond and yard where we saw deer frolicking occasionally. Only about 2 acres of the 7 acres advertised are accessible but there was plenty of room for the pup to cut loose. Cindy, who met us when we arrived, gave us the tour and acquainted us with little details here and there. She also very nicely added to the dwindling wood pile for those fireplace nights. The showers were nice and hot but the water pressure could have been better. Trinidad is a great little town with several restaurants, galleries, a museum, and great coastal access with awesome hiking trails. Murphy's, the local grocery store, was well equipped, and Katy's Seafood was outstanding, offering excellent fresh fish. We bought oysters, shrimp, cabezone and smoked salmon, all super fresh and delicious.
Overall, a wonderful five day stay, and we would return in a heartbeat when traveling that way again.

“The Great Escape”

What a relaxing vacation. The house was just as described, with the added bonus of a mama deer and her babies strolling through in the early evening.

“Peaceful location”

Beautiful home in peaceful location close to the amazing Trinidad Beach and Patricks Point State Park. Kitchen had everything we needed for cooking meals. Disappointed in the demands to avoid using island surface due to possible staining. Expected more than a mattress/box spring on the floor in master. Soiled rugs and bed duvet. Yard did not appear to be 7 acres. Overgrown and unable to walk past small bridge by pond. Overall we enjoyed our stay despite the above concerns.

“Great location, beautiful landscaping, quiet and serene.”
Reviewed May 8, 2014 for a stay in April 2014

My wife and I recently stayed here during a 3 day stop in the Redwoods. The location (just outside of Trinidad) is perfect for someone looking to experience the Redwood parks. It's a short drive from Jedediah Smith and Prairie Creek parks which have some of the best old growth stands of Redwoods.

The property is beautifully landscaped (we were there in spring when the rhododendrons were blooming), very quiet and secluded.

The property has all the amenities that you would need in a vacation home including laundry, a fireplace and charcoal grill. We cooked most all of our meals at the property, so we didn't eat out much, but Trinidad had some nice restaurant options and the property is within walking distance of the Larrupin Cafe which is supposed to be very good.

The only negative I had was that some of the finishes in the house (white carpet, unsealed pine counter top, softwood floors) aren't particularly kid friendly.

I would definitely recommend this property, it's not much more expensive than surrounding "lodges" and much nicer and more secluded.

Thanks for your positive review of our property. We worried primarily about making the stairs and upstairs child safe, with the baby gate and netting.

If we ever replace the floors in the long term future, we will replace the soft pine. We'll seal the butcher block kitchen island this fall. However, I think will still be vulnerable to stains since it's wood. Glad you had a good time in the area, and yes it's well below comparable lodging in price. Thanks so much, Lesley

“Serene stay”
Reviewed May 6, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

This is the second time we are renting this place. We once again loved the stay at this beautiful house! The house is perfectly kept and beautifully landscaped. We also visited Fern Canyon recommended by the owner of the house and it turned out to be a perfect spot even for the my 2 yr old. We all had a great time there. Thanks Lesley for all the tips and recommendations!! Would be definitely coming back again.

I'm glad you enjoyed our house both times. We only can get there 2 or three times a year and always find the quiet setting and beautiful surroundings to be restoring. In July we Kayaked on Stone Lagoon, and loved the experience. It's North before Orick.

Tnanks for your glowing review. We love the house too. We'll continue to work on and fix any problems. During our last visit my husband cleared the brush so it's possible to walk further than the pond. The seven acres are mostly overgrown, and Rob is gradually trying to clear the underbrush to creat a more walkable forest setting.
