Stayed here for one night as a halfway house. Excellent, friendly and charming host and hostess, varied menu, good food, reasonably priced and nicely presented. Bedrooms in separate entrance to pub up very steep stairs with no handrail so difficult for those with mobility issues. But room nicely furnished, very clean and good sized. Bathroom with shower equally so. Would definitely stay again.

It was my second visit and this time I was less impressed. It was Friday night and very quiet. I ordered scallops and they were overcooked, otherwise the dish was nice. From what my family ordered I could see that the pub tries to have dishes with a bit more international flavours but there is room for improvement. The kitchen seems to use ready-made sauces and they taste artificial. Overall we had good dinner, just no WOW this time.

We are sorry that on this occasion we did not meet expectations. Of course had the scallops been reported to us at the time we could have taken remedial action. Unfortunately as is often the case we don't discover a possible issue until it's too late to do anything about it. We wish customers would be more open with us at the time when most can be done to rectify any issue. Neither are we aware of which sauce(s) was being referred to although we would assure all our readers that our sauces are home made (Not entirely sure what "artificial" tastes of to be truthful). We do appreciate the feedback but it would have been so much more worthwhile to all concerned had at least some of it been shared on the night.

The Horse Guards is situated in a beautiful, quiet village and is everything you want from a country pub. What stood out for us was the excellent service, we'd booked a table for Sunday lunch in advance and when the owners realised that some of the roast options had sold out they offered us free desserts by way of an apology. This was unprompted by us and quite a nice gesture given the Sunday lunch is reasonably priced to begin with.

We had a family gathering to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary, there were 14 of us in total. This was a lunch time meal. The choices on the menu was superb. The mains served with vegetables were excellent and really good portions. Certainly NO complaints anywhere around the table. For sweet I had ordered pear tart, which when it arrived was nothing like I expected but was fantastic. The owners were very welcoming and the staff waiting at tables were exemplary.

Visiting the Cotswolds we popped in here with friends for supper this week, and were very pleasantly surprised by the delicious food, very good service and charming landlady. Left feeling full and with a list of local places to visit. Well worth a visit.
