“Camping Getaway in Urban O.C.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2014

Camped here last weekend for the first time (& 2nd time camping in 20 years) and had a great time. Very nice facility, lotsa campsites accommodating tents, RV's and groups. The Park itself also includes spacious day-use areas spread out thru the park, equestrian facilities and miles of trails.

The campsites themselves vary quite a bit depending upon location within the grounds, from small and close to one another, to spacious (we must have had a quarter acre to ourselves). Lots o' kids. Shade is also hit-and-miss, and water is scattered - some spots have their own spigots, others share amongst 4-5 spots. Restrooms/showers all over the place - probably more per site than I have seen in a campground, and they are clean and well-maintained.

Other than the close proximity to Trabuco Cyn. Road (and traffic noise), it's hard to believe you are basically in the middle of urban South O.C. I also did not experience any 'Gestapo' behavior on part of the Rangers noted by some other reviewers, but maybe we were just to boring and quiet. Good time!

“nice if a bit bland”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2014

Go out into the oak groves and it is quite pleasant though you will hear as much airplane noise as birds. Also when hiking around you can't really get away from the suburbia that has encroached the park - you aren't really immersed in nature. The night hikes guided by the rangers are great especially when it is hot which this place often is. The campground is just nothing special so remember to get out into the further reaches of the place.

“Hike to Holy Jim Falls”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2014

Past O'Neil Regional Park is the entrance to Holy Jim Falls. We went with a group of 16, ages 8 to 50+. The hike is uphill and requires a little agility but well worth the trip. The canyon is beautiful and the Falls are a great place for a picnic. Hiked this trail 5 times and each time the scenery changes with the amount of water in the creek. Well worth the trip and fits everyone budget, the trial is free.

Excellent place to camp. Clean bathrooms and showers. Ranger show on Saturday night. Close to home. Can't say much else.

“What a great place!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

We opted to camp here during our week in Orange county- saved us a ton of money and we had a great time camping. Our site was huge, well shaded and quiet. We had many neighbors but for the most part they were good neighbors. The location was great! We felt like we were in the country, but a quick drive and we were in "typical" Orange County. Lots of close by restaurants and shopping. It was very easy and quick to get to Disney, the beach and San Diego. I was amazed at how convenient it was yet very natural and remote feeling at the same time. My only complaint- a big one- was they closed both bathrooms in our camping area the day after we got there for the week. They installed porta potties but not the same. If I had known this ahead of time, I would have booked another site. We had to drive to the bathrooms for showers (with one parking space) and it was a hassle. But that's camping for you!
