KHB is like the Disney World of Hawaiian cuisine. The restaurant looks like a huge Hawaiian plantation house, you couldn't possibly miss it on Sepulveda if you tried. You walk in and are immediately overwhelmed with the amazing smell of sweet Hawaiian breads and cakes baking. You collect your number (there is ALWAYS a wait), and join the rest of the people waiting in line gawking at the sprawling array of desserts in the bakery/waiting area. We always go for breakfast so we have yet to sample any of the goods, but much has been lauded already about their cakes, etc. I'd like to everything's good, but I've only ever have had the same thing (a a rare case for me)...Big Island Breakfast: hawalian bread french teast, served with two eggs and I get the portuguese sausage with it. So good. The reason for just 3 stars is the major attitude of so many of the servers we've had, usually the guys. It's gotten to the point where we don't even go anymore. It's probably a good thing for my waistline anyway.

sorry, but Hawaiian food seems more and more like repackaged Asian food.

“Our favorite bakery... and the restaurant's good too!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2006

We find ourselves at King's Hawaiian at least every other month, if not once a month. We do take-out more than dine-in (it's just easier with small children!) but the few times we have dined in we've thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's a family-friendly restaurant and we can always count on the food to be good. It satisfies the tastes of everyone in our family of 6. Come to think of it, the last 4 or 5 birthday cakes we've bought have been King's Hawaiian (and it's a great excuse to stock up on their delicious potato-mac salad).
