I have been of Chef Salvatore at Scardino's for a long time, from his famed Dante days in Redondo Beach. Although the ambiance has changed to a more relaxed family restaurant, the food has remained outstanding. From the moment he brought out his infamous garlic bread to the last bite of my dinner, the experience was pure gastronomical pleasure. His seafood meals are by far the best in the South Bay, as his wife Alicia personally picks out each piece of fish served in Scardino's.
I began with his mussels in a light wine and garlic sauce, that were perfectly cooked and presented as my Mom would at home. A peak around the corner from Chef Salvatore and the smile on my face told him the story. He followed the mussels with a wonderful bowl of minestrone soup, that matched the taste only my grandmother was able to guarantee me each time. I then was treated to the most amazing bowl of pesto tortellini that this fifty something Italian has ever eaten in his life, light and delicate in flavor, they were close to orgasmic. When my meal arrived, hand delivered by the chef with a huge smile on his face, I knew I was in for a treat. He presented a beautiful piece of salmon, in a heavenly sauce that just brought out the flavor of this large piece of fish. I relished each mouthful, including the house standard broccli and potatoes. I invited the chef to join us for a toast to him and his family for a meal that makes any Italian feel like they are home again.
I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking the finest Italian seafood available in the South Bay. You may find fancier environments but none as friendly as Salvatore and Alicia'a Scardino's, and you will not be able to fine food of this quality in this great little discovery in Torrance.
