Okay, here's another suggestion for visitors (or locals) who want an easy, casual, healthy and delicious meal for a reasonable price. If you don't want to get dressed up, and tire of the usual take-out options, consider the outstanding selections (HUGE menu with photos of the entrees available online) at LaZeez, which is just barely over the boundary line (in Torrance) from Redondo Beach. Its location is easy to miss, though, in that it exists in the shadow of the adjacent Jack-in-the-Box drive-through. Just go one more business to the east, spot the driveway on the east side of the building, and you'll find the rear parking for LaZeez.
I happen to really enjoy the flavors of Middle Eastern or Mediterranean food, and LaZeez is very very good. JUST the right amount of garlic and lemon and I-don't-know-what make for a delicious change from more common Mexican, Italian or Asian cuisine. It is NOT highly seasoned beyond the taste and preference of anyone I've taken there. The quality of the food is very fresh and freshly prepared, including the best and freshest pita bread I've found.
I recommend either going in and ordering, based upon the photos on the wall (and then you get to smell all of the delicious aromas, too) or online, at http://www.lazeezpitagrill.com/ where you can see what you're ordering and consider all of those choices at your leisure. The food IS freshly prepared at the time you order, and so expect a 15 minute or more wait, unless you order by phone or online. You can also eat in the back of the restaurant in a very casual, spacious dining room, but it's kind of dark back there so we prefer take out.
One of my favorites, the Chicken and Beef Kebab combination platter costs about $12 and EASILY serves two people, with plenty of meat for two (see photo.) It includes pita and your choice of THREE side orders, one of which must be basmati rice in my opinion. The photo shows sides of cucumber and yoghurt salad (maast-o-khiar) and hummus. There are also green salad, or French fries, steamed vegetables and roasted red potatoes (with garlic - beware) as well as other side options from which to choose.
Additionally, I've always only found that the people who work there are very accommodating and kind, more than willing to explain the various entrees and very patient as patrons work out their orders. I think you will find it an attractive meal source, regardless of the time of day, and wherever you've spent the day. It is NOT posh in the least - you can walk up to the counter and order, then wait on a bench, or come back to pick-up or take your food to the dining area in the back. It is easy and delicious.
