“Value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2013

The hotel provides money for value on their hotel rates but need to do more on their bell boys, housekeeping and restaurant. Follow up from front desk was great and exceeded expectations. The plus point of this hotel is that it is near to a supermarket and in the food court, the ramen was simply delicious and the best we ever had. We had a glimpse of Japan in Torrance, California.

Room Tip: Ask for a non dusty room and higher floors for a peaceful and quieter sleep.

When we visit the Los Angeles area, we have made this hotel our first choice for a stay. While it is not upscale such that rooms cost $500 per night, the hotel delivers tremendous value for the money. The management appears to practice meticulous attention to every little detail. If we have a question or problem, it is dealt with and resolved in minutes. The staff seem genuinely concerned that we enjoy our stay and go out of their way to make us feel welcome.
When we arrive, a valet is waiting to park our car or we can self park. Electric and hybrid vehicles have special parking spaces and there is plenty of handicapped parking. I was surprised to read a review that said there was a shortage of parking because the hotel also has a huge lot across the street to the west.
As we enter the building, the valet gives a friendly greeting, followed by the Bellman, and then the front desk personnel. Everyone provides a welcoming greeting as we come and go from the hotel. All customers are promptly noticed and provided service as needed.
The Bellman we see every visit is Taber. He is always eager to be of service. Our first visit, he escorted us to our room and proudly showed us how to use all of the innovative devices of the suite.
The front desk check in typically takes less than a minute. Check out is even quicker, with the final bill delivered to the room and no need to stop at the front desk on the way out. We stop anyway just to say goodbye and thank the staff for a wonderful stay. Within 10 minutes after check in, the front desk calls and asks if everything in the room is satisfactory. It usually is, but if we notice a bulb is burned out or some other inconsequential problem, we ask for help and it is remedied within 5 minutes.
For the price, the room is perfect for our needs. The bathroom is large, with a deep tub and a separate shower area with water temperature easy to control. There's always plenty of hot water. The toilet is a Japanese toilet seat where one can clean oneself without using toilet paper except to dry off.
One of the reviewers complained about having to insert the room key into the device that allows power into the room and turns on the lights. The device is at the front door, is easy to insert, and the clunk noise is short and simply affirms that the power is coming on. The key is always left in the device while someone is in the room. When one leaves, the key is removed and all of the lights go off 30 seconds later, saving us the time of having to turn off every light.
The TV set is a little complicated to operate at first. But if you let Taber show you how to use it, no problem.
We like the security feature where no one can use the elevator to visit a resident's floor with out a room key. The system is not foolproof, but it is an extra measure of security.
The appearance of the hotel is spotlessly clean. This year's Christmas decorations caused us to take pictures in the lobby.
The added bonus of staying here is the fact that the hotel has a very small carbon footprint. It generates its own power and heats its water with solar panels.
We cannot imagine a better run hotel and have been unable to find a better place that we enjoy staying anywhere else in the country.
Notes: We have not tried the spa, which appears to be quite an enjoyable amenity for an added fee.
Room rates vary based on demand. The hotel basically caters to business persons. We usually stay on weekends or at holidays.

Room Tip: We have liked every room we have ever stayed in, regardless of the floor.

My husband and I stayed at this lovely hotel two nights while on business in the South Bay area. Service was wonderful throughout our stay, and we felt very welcomed and cared for at this property.

The small public space had a fireplace and offered hot cider gratis; much appreciated on cool December evenings. The rooms were great – well designed, attractive, and ultraclean. Plenty of workspace, with a desk (not against the wall so serves as a desk or table for two) and a chaise lounge for relaxation. Sliding glass doors can be opened to let in the fresh air. With curtains open you have basically floor to ceiling windows, which provide great atmosphere for the upper floors. Rooms have all the usual amenities, as well as free wireless; large, modern bathrooms; and free self parking onsite.

We did not make use of the restaurant, as we had dinner one night at the Japanese food court in the Mitzuwa Marketplace which is directly next door to the hotel. The next night we had dinner at Kagura, an excellent restaurant nearby that specializes in tonkatsu and other Japanese specialties. We did partake of room service breakfast (French toast, scrambled eggs, fruit plate) which was quite good and delivered on time.

The location is great with Mitzuwa next door, and a short drive to Del Amo Mall and other shopping and dining areas. The hotel is also considered a “green” hotel, another point in its favor as far as we are concerned.

Overall we loved the Miyako Hybrid and look forward to staying there in the future when business or family bring us back to the South Bay area.

As others have mentioned, the bathrooms very nice and the bedding outstanding. Very conveniently located next to market, good Japanese restaurants, and 5 minutes from the 405 freeway.
Clean, quiet, great service. I will definitely go back.

Quibbles:
Tried to get coffee in the evening but kitchen seemed to have closed earlier than the advertised hour. In-room coffee option wasn't so appealing.
No option to delete unwanted newspaper delivery.
The in-room guide to hotel didn't seem to mention the location of the fitness center (or it was well hidden). I had to ask.
Maybe put a little sticker on the thermostat to remind people that AC won't work without the room card in the holder. Staff had forewarned me but of course I forgot.

Extra Appreciated
Front desk staff seemed quite eager to assist with any questions I had.
Breakfast (vouchered) was delicious.

Stayed there many times in the past, great hotel and even greater now that they have resolved the slow internet issue.
Staff is most attentive, best service and great value.

I would recommend this hotel to any one, it will please even the most demanding traveller.

The bathroom has a great Japanese style bathtub. (Ofuro)

Room Tip: Every room is great.

Had to go to Compton/Crenshaw area (don't ask) and this hotel was the best option by far. What a delight it was. After the unpleasantness of the area, it felt like going to an oasis with the beautiful landscaping and the peaceful lobby. I could smell the lovely spa smells from the lobby and I spent a good deal of time studying the beautiful flower arranging. In fact my mother who was with me, who is an interior decorator, took pictures of the interior of the restaurant, which was gorgeously decorated. We had drinks there during the day and later dinner at night. I had the best sake of my life, in fact the whole table agreed. The room was lovely. I wish they could accommodate the latest iphone with the audio set up--they had tons of technology for syncing devices, but Apple keeps changing the connectors! I loved the room with the soaking tub and shower. My mother demanded to know the brand of sheets as she was deeply impressed with the quality and the hotel provided the information--lets just say they spare no expense for the comfort of their guests. The lighting throughout the hotel was subtle and beautiful. There were plenty of mirrors to check one's outfit and makeup in the elevators and hallways. The bidet int he room was a good idea, but I worried about the nozzle being clean as it did not appear to be so...also speaking of the toilet, it backed up. They must not have fixed it the first night when I called, they did the next day after it became rather disturbing for me. I was calm about it and they were apologetic, but it did mar an otherwise pristine experience.

This is a modern hotel that has amenities you would find in a 5 star hotel. Very nice staff and rooms are very clean. Hotel also has a on site restaurant as well as a spa. Ideal for relaxation or staycation. Only draw back is there is not a lot of entertainment around the area. The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is spectacular. I would come back again.
