What an experience.. amazing staff,,great food..great place to stay.. the trek is a must do.. it is sooo green..wondeful..away from city life..stay for atleast 3 nights and 4 days.. you need a day extra to do nothing and just absorb the place..else there are so many activities for 2 nights and 3 days.. Highly recommendedn

Room Tip: Take rooms which have a valley view else you would only see a bunch of tall trees.. ask before hand...

Booking:
We took the all meals included package deal for 3 days. The prices vary if you book directly and if you book with one of the travel/stay specialised portals. So it would be wise to check and compare the deals before making your booking.

Before arrival, they called to check on our travel plans, our preferred cuisine, and preferred newspaper. They sent us an SMS with very clear directions to the resort.

On arrival the staff were extremely polite and attentive. We were served a welcome drink and were explained everything that one needed to know at the resort.

The Drive to the Resort:
Tamara is a good 1 hour away from Madikeri town. From Bangalore it takes close to 6 hours, and if you want to break for a meal or coffee on the way, and a few confusions about directions, it would not be less than 7.5 hours. The KRS road is blocked (right now) in parts, so it would be better to avoid that route.

The Luxury Cottages:
The architecture is absolutely beautiful. Each cottage is constructed in a manner in which no other cottage can be viewed thus ensuring absolute privacy. The only bit which was strange was that each cottage has two rooms, which sort of kills the purpose of the privacy ensuring architectural design. So you have two rooms sharing the same wall, but to give them credit, there was no major disturbance because of that.

While the entire resort seems to have a luxury spa kind of feel to it, the interiors of the rooms seem to have a corporate feel to it. Would have loved it if the curtains, bed linen, sofas and cushions had a softer, cleaner feel to them, with softer colours or some such. The lamps, tables and mini bar units also remind you of a corporate hotel stay. In short, the interiors and the exteriors of the cottages are in sharp contrast. But if you are not such a stickler for the interiors, the cottage has everything you could ask for. Organic flavoured body lotions, shampoos, conditioners, a locker option, spacious cupboards, full size mirrors, a large balcony with a reclining chair, kettle with coffee and tea making options and more.

The only irritant for us was the fact that the AC remote was fixed to the wall, near the entrance. Every time there was a power fluctuation the AC would get switched off, and you need to get out of bed and walk to the AC remote to switch it back on. On letting the staff know about this the next morning, they quickly rectified this problem, so that the AC would switch on, on its own. But again, you still had to get out of bed and walk to the remote on the wall to adjust the temperature in case you felt too cold or too warm.

The Food:
The spread was quite huge, with more focus on Coorgi and Malayali cuisines. This was excellent, as we did not want to go for more Continental or Chinese options during the stay at Tamara. On requesting for a specific dish, the chef made it for us specially, in just 15 minutes. If you let the restaurant staff know in advance, they are ready to prepare something specific you need for lunch or dinner. We got the Coorgi Pork Curry specially cooked for us for dinner. Akki rotis, Kadumputtu, Malabari Fish Curry, Coorg Mushroom Curry, Appams and Nadan Chicken Curry were some of our favourites. Even the beverages served from the bar were perfect.
In the room there are complimentary biscuits, chips, juices and colas. We would have preferred something less junk (maybe a jar of cookies, muffins or breads over Lay's chips and Aerated drinks)

The Activities:
There is a trek organised for the guests, starting at 6.30 and ending by 10.30. Spa was under construction, so there was only a makeshift spa when we visited. The timing of the spa was mentioned as 8 am to 8 pm in the menu, but on trying to fix an appointment we were told that the makeshift spa functions only from 9 am to 6 pm. The Sports Centre had pretty good courts though it looked like noone had used them in a while. Basketball, Tennis and Badminton courts were there. It does get a bit too windy for badminton, but at certain times it is just fine. Unlike many other resorts, Tamara had great quality badminton equipments. There is Yoga, Birdwatching, Plantation Trail, Coffee Brewing, Nature Trail and more as other activities.

The Verandah:
There is a small cafe building where they also show the coffee brewing process. The organic products store is also situated here. This was one of our favourite places. Every evening after a game of badminton we would just plonk ourselves at the cute cafe and have a coffee. Sharan, who was in charge of the Verandah, was extremely warm and attentive to all our needs there.

The Property:
The property is huge, and the cottages are built in between the coffee plantation. There are huge trees and lots and lots of greenery all around. There are long trekking trails, coffee trails and plantation trails that have been charted out and the pathway is dimly lit. It is a beautiful pathway and good for long walks. It is advisable to carry the torches that have been provided for at the rooms, in case you venture out for walks after it gets dark.

The Staff:
All of them, every single one of them are extremely polite, warm, well spoken, efficient and attentive.

The Little things that Mattered:
The fact that they called us for our preferences and served us accordingly.
The welcome drink and the farewell gift bag.
The two bottles of water they had kept in our car before our trip back to Bangalore.
The chocolates they kept in the room every evening with a personalised card.
The buggy rides whenever you feel too tired to walk up and down the long winding roads

All in all, a welcome weekend getaway, pretty good privacy, long winding roads to roam around on, great food and very polite staff to pamper you during your stay, but I would say they still need to go a bit more for the 5 star standard.

Dear Anju,

Thank you so much for writing about your holiday experience.

The Tamara Coorg is a boutique luxury resort situated inside a 170-acre coffee and spice plantation in Coorg. The resort located on the eastern slopes of the Western Ghats has been designed to provide our discerning guests an exclusive environment. We would like our guests to experience complete rejuvenation away from the noise and pollution of towns and cities. In order to ease the journey and guide our guests, we have recently increased the number of signboards along the Blore and Mangalore routes.

The cottages raised on bamboo stilts leave very minimum footprint on our ecosystem. Every aspect of the cottage structure has been designed in a manner that reduces the impact on the environment.

Our team has taken great care in designing the aesthetics of our cottages right from its furnishings to providing amenities. We are well equipped to cater to a cross section of guests and aim at providing them all comforts possible. We are currently in the process of developing a full-fledged SPA & other amenities. Our guests however do have access to an interim SPA but within limited working hours.

We are glad that you enjoyed our signature ‘Blossoms to Brew’ coffee experience. Our friendly staff is always eager to help you brew a special cup.

It was a pleasure to host you. We hope you stay with us again in the future to enjoy our new offerings, which we are sure will delight you.

Warm Regards,
Team The Tamara Coorg

What a beautiful place. The Tamara experience was one of the best experience I have ever had while staying in a 5 star resort. Everything about the resort was absolutely brilliant. The location, the staff, the food, the climate, the politeness, the friendliness of the staff, the coffee plantation trail and our room all were amazing. We stayed for three night in the Superior Luxury Room and we had the best view from the resort. The best part of the resort was the peace and tranquility. I t was so amazing to hear the chirping of birds in the morning and no sound of vehicles or cell phone to disturb you We went for our honeymoon so they gave us a special candle light dinner at the falls cafe and decorated our room very beautifully. It was such a comfortable stay that we just did not want to leave from their. I will be visiting The Tamara Coorg again and hopefully very soon and would highly recommend anyone who wants to have and enjoy peace for a couple of days.

Room Tip: Prefer a flight to Manglore than Banglore as from Banglore it takes 7-8 hours to reach Tamara, but f...

THE TAMARA At Coorg Gives An Experience Out Of This World. Totally Different From Various Other Resorts Around Coorg. To Best Enjoy I Would Recommend Either Stay For Two Days Or At Least Spend A Day And Enjoy Their Delicious Seated Buffet Lunch.

Room Tip: Rooms up the hill are better.

We stayed here for a couple of days, and wished we had planned a longer stay!! Everything about this place is exceptional, from the service to the rooms.

Rooms: Really great room, with a living area and a balconyoverlooking the valley. This would easily be in the top 3 hotel rooms I have stayed in this budget.

Restaurant: great service, the chef made us what we wanted on top of the menu. buffet spread on one of the nights was quite good. The sommelier knew his stuf...impressive.

Coffee Plantation tour: nicely organised, good guide

Yoga: this perhaps took the cake. imagine the yoga platform on top of a small waterfall where you go yoga listening to birds and water! truly exceptional experience!!

Spa: the lady was very knowledgeable about massages, ayurveda, home remedies etc. wayyyy over-delivered compared to your avergae spa masseuse.

Overall an awesome experience, we hope to go back some day.
