“Very warm and friendly service”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

Stayed here for a night with my colleagues. Had gone on a business trip. The resort has been designed beautifully. It is inside a coffee plantation and each cottage has got 2 rooms on stilts. It gives the feeling of being in a tree house.you have a breathtaking view from the balcony. The service is very good. However there is a lot of scope for improvement in the taste and quality of the food. Overall a very good experience.

I and my husband went to this resort for a weekend in August 2013. This was the first time we were going to Coorg so I searched for a good resort, reviews from Tripadvisor also helped me to choose this resort. The drive to this resort is a little tiring but after u reach the resort u forget all that.....starting from the welcome at reception to the stay at cottage everything at the resort is great..........the food was good........The resort organises trekking and Plantations trails for guests.Overall the experience of staying in a wooden cottage among the coffee plantations was excellent. we will never forget our stay at The Tamara resort.

We stayed for a night as part of a Karnataka road trip and simply loved it. The drive from our previous destination (Bekal) to the Tamara was one of the best drives we have ever done within India, through several kilometers of pristine rainforest, and what awaited us at the resort was an absolute treat. Upon arriving here, we had a warm welcome at the reception area where we took our time to soak in the environs. We were then taken on a buggy ride up to our room, which was a log cabin on stilts, built without disturbing the elevation of the property that we were given to understand, houses 135 acres of coffee, pepper and cardamom plantations.

The room smelled woody and fragrant. The room was compact and beautiful, leading out to a decently sized deck with a view of greenery all around and the neighbouring log cabin at a distance. The bathroom and bath products were quite nice. We loved the soap and bought a few from their gift shop "the Verandah" later, along with some coffee powder.

The lunch was regular - nothing extraordinary to speak of - the only reason I stopped short of giving Tamara the best rating. The breakfast spread was fulfilling - especially loved the coffee. One of the best coffees of our trip!

We loved walking around the property. We took a coffee plantation trail with their resident guide, who taught us how to identify Arabica and Robusta coffee plants and gave us some interesting trivia about coffee and the property in general. Since we went during the monsoons, leeches were in abundance off the concrete path, but we loved the trail since we love the wilderness. Picked up a couple of Rudraksha seeds along the way that had fallen on the ground from trees.

We also got a coffee making lesson where we ground our own coffee beans and made ourselves a piping hot cup each, of some really, really good coffee.

The staff was really super and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. I'd like to give this resort a special mention for their thoughtfulness - I left behind a pair of linen capris which they very promptly couriered back to my residence in Mumbai - really appreciative of their gesture.

All in all, an exceptional experience in the monsoons. We will surely be back for a longer stay!

Room Tip: The suite rooms have an unobstructed view but all rooms are very well located too

Our stay at The Tamara was absolutely delightful. No photographs can do justice to this wonderful place. However much you read about it, however many photographs you see, The Tamara will come up with something more to surprise you. It's not just the room you pay for. It's the experience that you pay for at The Tamara and it is absolutely worth it! The Tamara is located on a lush green plantation, in a far away place - away from the crazy city life. This place has the best to offer in every aspect - be it the superb wooden cottages, the outstanding food, the spa or the impeccable service. The cottages have a sun deck in a balcony overlooking the rainforest....It feels wonderful to just lie there and enjoy your fresh coffee. Once you are at The Tamara, you have so much to do. They organise treks, plantation trails, brew your own coffee experiences.....You need to stay for at least 3 nights to get the wholesome experience. Once you are at the resort, you do not need to go elsewhere. However if you are not the outgoing type and you do not enjoy the outdoor treks then you may not have much to do except relax and enjoy a few drinks, while listening to a nice live band playing in the restaurant in the evenings. Everything in the resort is done up very tastefully. This place is located in a dense plantation so yes, there are going to be some insects or some leeches but that's the exclusivity of the whole rustic experience! So go ahead, embrace nature and get lost in the beauty of The Tamara.

Room Tip: Any room would be equally good..... For a better view, go for the Superior Luxury Cottages

While the locale where the Tamara is located in awesome, the stay itself at the resort was not in keeping with the promos and ads. After a very long drive from Bangalore, the welcome by the staff was warm. The cottages allotted were beautifully done. However, the major flaw was that the electricity kept tripping several times in the night, the air conditioning did not function- it was a quite traumatic given the fact that the twin cottages are located at a distance from each other and the Reception. Given the fact that the coffee plantation is in elephant territory, that could be very scary.
The food served for breakfact was typical, however the dinner menu was pathetic. This could definitely be improved.

The place for all its scenic, serene and tranquil setting could do well to improve the basic facilities provided.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing The Tamara Coorg. We are glad that you enjoyed the beautiful surroundings that engulf our resort, and the décor of our cottages.

We understand your concerns and would like to address them one by one. We regret the inconvenience caused due to the electric power tripping in your cottage. We place highest importance on the comfort of our guests and hence we had staff deployed to your cottage immediately on both the instances of power tripping reported by you. The Tamara Coorg has been built considering every possible needs of a guest in mind and has been created against innumerable odds presented by the challenging terrain. As far as air-conditioning is concerned, we had shared information on using the system with your husband and assure you that it was fully functional.

Please note that The Tamara Coorg is located on the edge of a tropical evergreen forest and aims to provide our guests a close encounter with Nature and its wild life. However, there is no such elephant territory we are located in. Silent herds occasionally pass through the forests on the other side of the mountain and have no access to the plantation or resort.

We take your feedback on the dinner menu and assure you that we will look into earnestly. We resolve to offer the finest degree of hospitality to our guests and your remarks will come a long way in helping us to continue delivering the best.

We hope you would enjoy your next experience at The Tamara Coorg better. We look forward to host you again.

Warm regards,
The Tamara Coorg

It was a rather torturous journey from Madikeri to the resort. The road was winding, uneven, had poor signage and it took about an hour and a half to cover a 35km stretch to reach our destination. We were just about starting to curse the place under our breath when we were pleasantly surprised by the very warm welcome we received at the Tamara Coorg. The whiff of jaggery coffee served was delightful and we soon hopped into a golf cart that took us to our cottage. The Tamara Coorg features tastefully furnished tropical hardwood cottages elevated on iron posts, nestled amongst undisturbed jungles and in complete harmony with nature. We stayed in one of superior luxury cottages ( number 112). The cottage was spacious and offered a spectacular view of the Western Ghats from its own private balcony. Great care has been taken to preserve the forest in its original form. Access to each cottage is through a series of footpaths allowing one to explore the dense foliage along the way.

We woke up early morning to the sounds of chirping birds. At 6:30am we set off for a trek that took us through coffee and cardamom plantations, pepper vines and banana groves. The moss covered trails and the stunning waterfalls are surely a photographer’s delight.

A visit to the ‘Verandah’ turned us into the perfect baristas. Here we mixed our own Arabica and Robusta beans, roasted, dried, ground them and ended up brewing the best coffee ever had :)

If you love nature, coffee, good food and tranquility this is where you should go for a perfect vacation!
