“Love the Pupusas and the Chili verde!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2014

Here is the deal - These guys are from El Salvador - The Pupusa is the thing. Inexpensive (under 3 bucks) and Good and Flavorful! Try it! That and a small Chile Verde tostada and I am full! the amazing thing is three of us have gone in had dinner and got out for a twenty! Nice deal for sure. Small town, nice people, and I am happy with this one! - Just had dinner here last night (3/11/14) and it is as good as always. We love this place.

“Puposas? In Templeton? YESSSS!!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

OK, look, California leads the nation in Mexican restaurants per capita (that's my guess). And 99% are very predictable with the same old rice, frijoles, and borderline fare (pun intended) that ranges from Sysco to muy autentico.

Since discovering an El Salvadoran delicacy/staple called: "puposa" a few years ago in LA, I've made it a quest to find and sample these stuffed pockets of masa and cheese wherever I go. Well, on California's Central Coast, there are many many Mexican places, but damned few Salvadoran. However, this little old unassuming Mom & Pop shop on Main Street in downtown Templeton (pop.~4000) has GREAT puposas. The owner is not Mexican, she's from El Salvador, and she is in the shop almost daily. The bulk of the menu is Mexican, but their puposas take the cake! We tried a couple of those (heaven!), and some chile verde (very good), and finished with the flan (somewhat disappointing given the quality of the rest). Try their chips and salsa, the salsa is tops, fresh and spicy. The puposa sauce is also fantastic!

We ate here on a Sunday evening after 7:30, expecting an empty restaurant (it seats about 24), but lo and behold it was crowded, lots of locals! The atmosphere was relaxed, the son of the owner was also the server, he was efficient and attentive. Service was quick.
Unless you are willing to drive to the El Salvadoran food truck at the Buttonwillow exit off of I-5, or down to mid-town Santa Maria, you don't need to look beyond little old Templeton California for a classic dish from Central America.

I highly recommend this place to anyone passing through or by on the 101. Templeton is midway between LA and SF, so, if you are looking for a pitstop, this is the place!

“Its the only Mexican Restaurant in Templeton. Drive to Paso Robles.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2011

The food is fair by local standards, but as for good Mexican food, it falls short. I have been there three times hoping to experience some good, authentic Mexican food. I will wait another 6months or so. If they are still in business, I will try it again. The best dish I had was the Chilli Relleno. The rice is good. Beans were ok. Taco meat was oily, and wished they had some good white mexican cheese. It was like eating at my neighbors house.

“Best Mexican Food in Templeton”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2011

Charleys Says - try the pupusas. This is a dish from San Salvador and it is wonderful for a light lunch of dinner. One of these and a chili Verde tostada was wonderful for me on my last visit. Simple, small, hidden in Templeton and worth the stop!
