I've eaten at all the Italian restaurants in Temecula and they all have about the same things on the menu. But, Trattoria Toscana is different and now I know why. The owner is from Sardinia and they have different dishes for that region. And, he cooks the Sardinian way... simple but elegant and VERY tasty!
Last night was New Year's Eve. My husband and I knew that if we didn't have an RSVP at any restaurant in Temecula, it would be hard to get in. So, we slipped out at 5 pm, drove to Trattoria Toscana of Temecula and were fortunate to find two seats at the bar where we enjoyed our last dinner of the year. The restaurant was already packed.
They had some really unusual specials I hadn't tried before, so I said, "what the heck" and ordered them. I had no idea that ravioli could be made in any size or shape. Instead of the little squares of dough, these raviolis were handmade, at least 4 inches long, and they were crescent shaped. The owner said he had started making them at 4:30 am that morning. One ravioli was filled with a ricotta cheese mixture and the other with creamed spinach mixed in with some arugula pesto. They were both heavenly. We also ordered their stuffed octopus appetizer which were stuffed with a mixture of salmon, mussels, clams and some other secret ingredients. We were amazed. Super super tasty food! Just thinking about it makes me want to go back there tonight.
The restaurant also now carries Wiens Insomnia beer but only in the bottled version which is just as good as the draft beer. My husband had chianti wine instead.
This restaurant is on the smaller side but the service is always impeccable. Their team is well organized, so everything runs smoothly with every attention to detail given. Every time we've eaten there, the food has always been served nice and hot. Their servings are generous, too so that you can take some home for lunch the next day. We will definitely be back.
