My family and I (myself, wife and 3 year old daughter) decided to take a last-minute trip to Lake Tahoe and wanted to stay on the less-commerical, rustic West Shore of the lake. We had no interest in the casinos & strip-malls of the north and south lake cities, just some quiet time in the woods and near the beach. It turns out Tahoma Lodge was the perfect fit.

I'd been to Tahoma before and adored the quiet town and local market, as well as the proximity to Tahoe City, Sugar Pine Point park and other west shore attractions.

I was a little apprehensive after reading one of the reviews here, especially because we were to stay in Alder cabin. I'm happy to say that the cabin was wonderfully peaceful, rustically adorned and very comfortable. I've no idea what noise the previous reviewer was referring to as the basketball court is tiny and was never occupied during out stay. Although the cabin was small, it was just right for our small party and included TV, DVD and kitchen. It was a short walk across 89 (a relatively quiet two lane highway) to the private beach and pier. Not only that, but the prices were considerably cheaper than Tahoe Lake Cottages, a similar establishment right next door.

The service was good: We had fresh towels every day and the staff was wonderfully attentive to our needs. Natalia could be reached at any time via her cell phone and, when we lost our room key on a late evening hike through Sugar Pine park, she quickly met us back at the cabin with another key.

Overall, a pleasant, relaxing stay and highly recommended.

This place was very nice and cozy, kind of rough around the edges but we liked it. Like the first reviewer, we stayed in the Aspen Cabin which was very nice. It had everything we needed but the upstairs did get very hot with the heater on so I would recommend turning it down low at night. They did not clean the cabin, only change the towels which was OK. We got the place for a great rate, 100 per night, but they were weeknights. It's close to a lot of cute little restaurants and the Homewood ski area. Very nice, recommended.

And if you're up for driving into South Lake Tahoe, we found a great little bbq restaurant called Womack's. It's right on the border of CA and Nevada.

Tahoma Lodge is one of the few places in the west shore that allows dogs and had a reservation available for pres. day weekend. Sarah, the host, was very nice and courteous. We stayed in the Aspen cabin. $175 per nigth with 3 night minimum, but you couldn't find a cheaper deal with this much charm and privacy anywhere nearby that allows dogs.

Unique because of the loft and pull down stairs that lead to the comfy bed up there. small dogs and children would have to be carried up these stairs. Real fireplace downstairs, kitchen is pretty much stocked, bring paper plates if you don't wanna do dishes every night, and bring your own coffee grinder and cutting board.

If we needed anything in the cabin, we just called the office number which forwarded to Sarah's cell. she always got back to us right away, cozy cabin. small, but fine for just us 2 and our pug. hot tub is awesome and open 24 hours as long as you are quiet. office is not staffed full time, but its really not necessary. They don't seem to clean the cabin everyday but just empty the garbage. 5 mins. from Homewood ski resort. PDQ market a short walk away has everything you might need.

Upstairs loft gets HOT at night so conserve heater. Water out of tap is more drinkable than bay area water. we loved staying here.
