Very nice, small restaurant with great service, good wine and food. Recommended for guests at the lodge and a good choice as a destination restaurant. If you love fresh ground pepper this is the place. Best I've had in many years. Desserts are terrific too. The entire lodge was remodeled to include the restaurant and the design is wonderful. Wood is everywhere. The tables are a work of art. Fireplace too.

Ate here upon arrival night as we were staying at the lodge. I was both very surprised and impressed. A small, quiet setting with excellent service and a menu to please. The food was excellent and rivals that of any five star restaurant. Even if I were not staying here, I would venture out for a dinner here, as we really enjoyed our meals, the service was excellent and all of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. This restaurant is an excellent addition to this very pleasing property.

Wanted to try this newly opened Restaurant and were glad we did. Although the menu is a bit limited, we found several dishes we would have liked to try, but we stayed only 2 days in Tahoe Vista. Excellent food, great wine selection, friendly, efficient staff.

This restaurant is a worthy destination in and of itself. Small and intimate, they serve gourmet food (literally) and the service is excellent. It’s the kind of place where you’ll probably be lucky to get a table once the word gets out.

The Rustic Lounge is a delight. Ana Bryan, the executive chef, is Cordon Bleu trained, and it shows, and I doubt there are many like her in the Tahoe area. Her previous gig was at a top Washington D.C. restaurant. This is her first chance to run her own restaurant and she is making the most of it. She has to work around some built-in problems. It is a small dinner-only restaurant, with a small kitchen, and seasonally changing populations. She has to offer both family fare and upscale dishes. I suspect she makes glories of them all.

The restaurant is a newly constructed part of Cedar Glen Lodge. The Lodge itself has many positive reviews here on TripAdvisor, and I will be redundant in praising owners Alan and Martha for their extreme warmth and hospitality and dedication to making everything right. Check out their Facebook page. People who come to Cedar Glen Lodge are immediately family. The Lodge, still undergoing renovation, is a work of love. Each room or cabin seems to have its own personality, so it is worth doing a bit of research to find the best fit for you. The picnic area, swimming pool, side-hill volleyball court (!) and other diversions at this kid-friendly, pet-friendly place have to make for lively family fun in summer. Not having young children anymore, my wife and I chose mid-September for our visit. It was quiet. It was wonderful. Our room in the lodge (#25) had a range, sink, refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, microwave, and large color TV, and gleaming new hardwood floors, and a separate ultra-clean bedroom with fresh linens. We couldn't have been more content.

But we didn't come to stay in our room or cook for ourselves. That's why the Rustic Lounge was such a wonderful surprise. It is only three months old. To exaggerate maybe slightly, it was like wandering down an unfamiliar Paris street and finding an exceptional small restaurant with a not-yet-famous chef, except in Paris the tables would be closer together. Ana Bryan, I think, can turn the simplest thing, say mac-n-cheese, into something new and awesome, but I didn't have time to test that idea. We were knocked over by a utilitarian-named dish called "Shrimp and grits." It turns out to be what I would call a creamy, perfectly flavored fresh corn chowder topped with large shrimp that have spent no more than a minute in a very hot skillet before coming right to your table.

The menu, quite sensibly for a small kitchen, is not extensive. Starters included the shrimp and grits, seared scallops, mac-n-cheese, and a south-of-the-border black bean hash. There is a creamy gazpacho, and a large fresh salad, almost a meal in itself. Main dishes get you into roasted chicken, fresh fish, fillet mignon, and even meatloaf burger, which is what hamburger really is. There are pizzas, called flatbreads, with classic toppings. The servings are generous, and the kitchen is happy to split dishes for diners with light appetites.

And wait! There's more. Rustic Lounge has its own pastry chef, David Meade, who gave us a sublime peach panna cotta, and a fresh dinner bread that was so good we thought of having it shipped to us every day. The restaurant is open Wednesday through Sunday, and prices are about what we pay in San Francisco at good restaurants, around $10 for starters and $20 for mains. There is a small but well-selected wine and beer list and a wine and beer bar open before dinner, including a Happy hour or two.

We will definitely be back to the Cedar Glen Lodge, in good part to work our way through Ana Bryan's menu. She is just getting started and we expect great things to come. And we want to thank TripAdvisor participants for steering us to this exceptional place in the often rather tired and impersonal Tahoe resort scene.
