We visited for breakfast. The view was breathtaking and our mimosa was strong, and that is where the positives of this review end. The food was bland and very poorly prepared. The chef has no pride in their work. The omelet came out with very little of the cheese melted, so it was like biting into a cold stack of cheese. My boyfriend's over easy egg came with yolks broken and his sausages were so burnt you couldn't taste anything but the burn. The fruit cup was not fresh at all and if done the same day should not have been so wilted at 10:30 am. We were amazed at the lack of quality food given the location and view from this restaurant. If you don't mind terrible food, I definitely recommend the view from this restaurant.

My in-laws, wife and I come to Tahoe every year. In the past we have always gone to Captain Jon's for drinks before going elsewhere for dinner. They have great seating on a deck for drinks in the evening. This year we decided to try having dinner there. We made reservations for 6:30 and showed up at 5 for drinks out on the dock. We were informed we could not sit on the dock as that was for people with reservations. It took 15 minutes to figure out where we could have a drink and where we were going to sit for dinner.

Drinks: We went to the bar to order a couple drinks and get the wine list. Ordered two gin martini's sans vermouth. These were made immediately and delivered without olives. Asked for olives, bartender grabbed two by hand and plopped them in (no toothpicks). Wife ordered a glass of wine and I ordered a mint julep we also ordered apps. Food arrived before my wife's wine. 10 minutes later the waiter informed me that the bartender didn't know how to make a mint julep but was going to look it up. Asked for a glass of wine instead. Took 20 minutes to get all the drinks. Shrimp cocktail was really good and steamed clams were also really good.

Dinner: We asked for a table in the main dining room to get away from all the people in bathing suits at the bar and in the boat house. We thought that in the main dining room there would be a better waiter and bartender. Turns out that the bar in there was not staffed and the boat house bartender (mister didn't know how to make a mint julep) was the only bartender (we stuck with wine). Also turned out that the same waiter we had in the boat house was our waiter in the dining room. So as expected, drinks took forever and the waiter was never around.

To be fair, the waiter was not at fault, the management was. This was 4th of July weekend and they only had one bartender for the dock, boat house, outside dining room and inside dining room. This bartender served anyone at the bar before filling dinner drinks and was checking his cell phone when people were waiting for drinks. Also, the same waiters were staffing the dock, boat house and dining room instead of having one waiter inside and one out.

Food: Lobster Bisque was good but had one shrimp and NO LOBSTER. Caprese salad was nice. Three people at the table ordered the special prime rib. It was good but also the fattiest PR any of us have had.

Captain Jon's is almost hidden at Lake Tahoe; if you don't know where to look, you will miss it. This is a small restaurant that sits out over the water at incredible Lake Tahoe. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and it was busy, so we had about a hour wait, but it was well worth it. The food was very good and service was friendly and upbeat. Since there is a boat dock right in front, many boaters drop in to enjoy what this wonderful restaurant has to offer. Also, if you are looking for a great place for a romantic dinner at Tahoe, this is ideal. Prices reflect your location--Tahoe--but I don't think it is out of range for Tahoe. The atmosphere is very relaxing with an amazing panoramic view of the Lake. You can have a bite to eat or just enjoy the bar day or night. I highly recommend this lovely down-home-type eatery on the north shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe. One thing to note--parking is limited. Please try Captain Jon's--you will not be disappointed.

Thursday night - live guitarist, quiet restaurant, good service. Good food. Be aware that prices reflect the on-the-lake location, quality of food and wine list, as well as competitive local restaurants (yup, there are pricier ones). Had a great experience!
