This place speaks FRESHNESS! The chile reanos are the best I have ever had. The fresh pico de gallo is made daily. Other favorites are the fish fillets with a special house sauce. The fish is always fresh and delicious. The place has everything from steaks, seafood, excellent soups, ceviche, and the foods that you would expect in a fine Mexican restaurant. It is a good place to have meetings and get togethers since it can accomodate large groups. Highly recommend the experience staff, chefs and servers.

Tia Juana is located in strip mall in a residential area on the "other side of the railroad tracks" some 3 miles from downtown Sunnyvale. I would not have known about it except that they have a coupon in the Entertainment Book for $9 for two people. It is apparently very popular with the weekday lunch crowd, as it is very close to AMD and other semiconductor industries along Lawrence Expressway in the area of Sunnyvale close to Santa Clara along highway 101.

The restaurant is on the extreme corner of the Fair Oaks shopping center on Duane Ave., a couple of blocks from Lawrence Expressway.

The entire front section is a wall of windows from floor to ceiling, giving it a more spacious feeling with ambiance built through colorful purple and blue painted walls with painted murals, and drawings of soccer players encased in glass frames on the walls, accompanied by Mexican music in the background, over an attractive brown tiled floor.

We come in the front glass door, and are directed to a varnished wooden table with Mexican tiles for 2 with red padded wooden chairs right next to the front window. Tight fit for two full dishes, drinks, and utensils. There are three overhead TV monitors, two showing Mexican soccer, and another a beauty pageant, despite this being a college football night, with Cal playing Ohio State.

The place seats 100 people, with an array of tables for 2,4 or 6 people, and a bar area with mirrors behind.

The menu is extensive with both a lunch and dinner menu. I order the $11 combination of three , while my wife orders the Mexican lime shrimp for $13.50. She orders orange juice and I coca cola each for $2.50. Other prominent items on the menu include pork carnitas for $11, 2 shrimp enchiladas for $12, camerones rancheros $13.50, beef or chicken frijitas $13.

Service is good, as our orders are taken within a few minutes of arrival, and the cooked food delivered within 10 minutes. Spicy hot salsa with freshly made tortilla chips. The orange juice is 12 ounces, and the similar sized coca cola comes with one free refill.

My chicken tostada comes on a fried corn tortilla, complete with shredded lettuce, chicken, guacamole, and sour cream. Very delicious and well presented. My beef and chicken enchiladas are covered with a tangy tomato based sauce with plenty of kick. The chicken enchilada includes full length strips of red pepper. Both the chicken and beef are very tasty with good texture -shredded meat and not minced or hamburger.

My wife dish comes with eight good sized shrimp, soaked with a very salty garlic creamy sauce. Previously, I've have enjoyed the pork carnitas and she enjoyed the camerones diablo -very hot sauced shrimp.

The place is very clean, tables cleared quickly, and chairs and floors cleaned of dropped food particles. A glass mirror is behind the short bar area, with wine glasses handing from a ceiling holder. Very nice, with plenty of ambiance.

The only view is that of your parked cars, right up next to the window, separated by a pedestrian sidewalk. Some might consider this an advantage, where you can watch your car while eating, as this is not the safest area of Sunnyvale, where car break ins do happen.

Tia Juana is closed for Sunday dinners.

Off the beaten track location. Great service. Homemade and delicious soups and the best homemade mole sauce. Large portions can be shared to also enjoy a cup of the everyday chicken soup and great chips and salsa. Very casual neighborhood place, lots of parking. Beer and wine, but homemade Sangria.

Tia Juana does most of its business at lunchtime serving employees at the local tech companies. They excel at seating people quickly, getting the food out, and preparing the table for the next customer. All the while, they serve up consistently good food. The service is efficient and outstanding.
