Owner description: The Haggin Museum, an art and history museum, has been referred to by Sunset magazine as “one of the undersung gems of California.” The art collection features works by noted 19th-century painters Albert Bierstadt, Rosa Bonheur, and William-Adolphe Bouguereau, along with many other American and European artists. The history displays focus on this area’s past and residents, including Charles Weber, Stockton’s founder; Benjamin Holt, inventor of the Caterpillar tractor; and Tillie Lewis, the “Tomato Queen.”

Special events are beautifully planned, and standing exhibit is a great history lesson, especially for grade school students.

“A true Stockton gem!”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

Any newcomer or visitor to Stockton must visit the Haggin Museum in Stockton. It's art and history collection rivals that of any large metropolitan museum. The Haggin is home to wonderful artists such as Bierstadt, Bouguereau and Bonheur. It also houses the largest collection of JC Leyendecker anywhere. Leyendecker was a contemporary of Norman Rockwell and his works were featured often on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post. The Haggin also offers much local history and features local industrial pioneers such as Holt Brothers and Stephens Brothers. It is truly a gem with much to behold for the old and young alike. A wonderful gift store with unique merchandise is available too.

“CA Central Valley history and great art in one place”
Reviewed April 15, 2014 via mobile

For the history buffs, this is a beautiful museum that always has something going on. The surrounding Victory Park gives the big city Stockton a small town feel. In the summer, there is the weekly music in the park to enjoy.

“A gem!”
Reviewed February 18, 2014

My buddy and I go cruising (we are seniors who like to check out CA history). We happened upon this place and what a find. We had a docent all to ourselves who took us on a complete tour. While this is not the Met it does provide local history without being overdone. My advice is to check it out.
