The food was great (Ciopinno and clam chowder especially!) and it had a fun, lively atmosphere in the evenings. Nice outdoor patio too.

We love this little restaurant and eat there every time we go to Stinson Beach. The food is excellent and it's family (and dog) friendly. We were there on Saturday, Nov. 3 and it was 75 degrees. We ate out on the patio. Where else in northern CA can you eat outside in November?

After a long transcontinental flight and being really jet lagged, four of us decided to drive out to Stinson Beach after a short walk in the Muir Woods. About 4:45 PST we were starving and saw the Sand Dollar Restaurant. Cute, homey atmosphere, friendly service and tasty food. All of us loved our respective dishes and had a great beginning to our week and a half trip to California. By the time we completed our meal the place was packed and a pianist was quietly playing in the front.

Food was good, lots of seafood choices, everything smelled and looked delicious! Lots of outdoor seating, reasonable prices. Our server was not on the ball. She kind of deserted us and was not too friendly, but the other servers/hosts were very nice

In August, we (4 adults, 1 foodie teen) rented a beach house for 2 nights (Friday & Saturday) in Stinson Beach. There are 2 restaurant’s open for dinner, Sand Dollar Restaurant and the Parkside Café! Reading the influential Stinson Beach TA reviews, I booked Osteria Stellina in Point Reyes Station and Buckeye Roadhouse on the Shoreline Highway in Mill Valley. We are somewhat cursed being ultra picky about where we dine. After driving the roads into Stinson Beach and touring North our first day, it became clear that picky eating comes with a price of twisty, narrow dark roads late at night. So when in Rome or should that be Naples?

Both eateries turned out to be very good! The consensus (tough crowd) rating for each is 3. But this author internally votes 4 because my expectations were exceeded and I really enjoyed both meals. See Parkside Café for detail review!

Sand Dollar offers comfy tables inside and heat lamp warmed patio dining. We made an 8PM dinner reservation and were seated right away on a crowded evening. We had the table next to the lit fireplace (yes August) which was quite nice. Typically I do not care for live music while I am dining but the piano player offered up some non-disturbing lively tunes (Vulcan mind shift)! The menu offers a wide spectrum to choose from featuring mostly seafood and pasta’s. Naturally the young foodie had the evening special Wild Salmon (really liked) and offered to split with his Uncle (me) the Tartare of Ahi (good not exceptional). A nice accompaniment to his mango smoothie! The others enjoyed their meals with one comment citing a lack of sausage in his Portuguese Stew (cod was the fish). For me, the Cioppino was unfortunately a disappointment. The tomato broth lacked a thicker, nicely spiced rich flavor. The tomato bits seemed almost canned. The wine list was extensive with several varietals. I am not ashamed to admit that I typically order the cheapest bottle on the list. When the sommelier stated that the last bottle of Zinfandel (most expensive of 2) was just taken by another table, I had to feign a little disappointment while mentally computing our $18 savings! Our attractive, fairly serious server with her Polish accent was very attentive to our needs and questions….like what Country is your accent from? I should have known because that is typical of Northern California beach towns!

Overall we were all very satisfied with our dining experiences at Sand Dollar and Parkside Café. The drives home involved 2 turns being back in plenty of time to take a long moonlit stroll on the expansive beach with the SF City lit skyline in the distance. You will not be disappointed at either locale!

Enjoy!
