“An "essential" hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2013 via mobile

We stayed in this hotel for a night and was satisfied with it providing all the essential amenities for a good night stay. Next morning, breakfast was provided but don't expect much except for bread, cereal, orange juice, bagel, cheese spread, nutella and coffee of course. AC and heater are both available however, no free wifi in room, only in lobby n dining area. Tip: ask for room near lobby if possible so as to tap on the free wifi, signal pretty strong. Overall, a peaceful night after a long flight.

Nice looking lobby, garden area, huge room used for horrid 'free' breakfast: dried out pancakes, kids' cereal, bagels.
Where to begin: shuttle delay at airport, seedy worn out rooms: can see through door frame, no light by one side of King bed (told it was an 'upgrade'), other light not working, no wash clothes, bed coverings threadbare, noisy with absolutely no insulation in room.

Room Tip: Doubt there are any

Something good:
- Absolutely convenient travel to the airport, they have free shuttle bus. We arrive SF at night and it is fast to get there, by free-calling the hotel in the bus stop and arrived the hotel around 10 mins.
- Free breakfast, hot water, free wifi, TV in the area near the lobby.
- The room is big and clean, especially the washroom.

Something bad:
- The bed looks old-fashioned (but actually clean)
- Not near the downtown, you have to go back to the airport, find the metro or take bus
- The room itself don't have kitchen area, no hot water, but you can take from lobby.
- As it is a "garden", the corridor, outside each room, actually is outdoor.. it is very cold during morning & night (we were there in late August!) so make sure you wear enough clothes
- It seems no lift to the second floor, if you have lots of baggage, better request the room at ground floor!
- Poor that no wifi in every room, only can access in lobby.

Room Tip: choose rooms at ground floor for who carrying large baggages

We selected this hotel based on its claim of complimentary round trip shuttle service to SFO. Upon arrival to the airport this morning after a very long flight, we were frustrated and disappointed when we then had to sit and wait for over an hour and a half for the shuttle (which apparently picks up and drops off every 30 minutes). During that time, I placed 7 phone calls to the front desk. Melina kept giving me the same run around about the pick up schedule, telling us to keep waiting, and even placing me on hold so she could locate the driver (which she apparently forgot she was doing because after the first 8 minutes, she clicked back over saying "oh yeah, let me find the driver", then forcing me to wait another 7 minutes before stating she couldn't track him down). When I asked to speak with a manager, Alfanzo got on the line and explained that he'd leave his position managing the back of the house to figure out what was happening and if anything, would personally come get us himself. Not only did he NOT return my phone call for over 40 minutes, he declined to accept my calls, sending me to voice mail and having Melina tell me that he stepped out for a bit. He FINALLY called back after we had been dropped off at the hotel. When I informed him that his customer service technique was laughable, he got defensive with me stating that he runs back of the house operations, not the front of the house. No apology, no understanding, no attempt to rectify the situation in any way. This hotel misrepresents itself with offering the convenience of airport transportation, which turns out to be anything but an inconvenience. Stay elsewhere.

It is out of the way with very little curb appeal. I parked my car there before going on my trip and when coming back the man at the airport said I should call for a pick up which I did. That meant I had a wait for about 35 minutes late at night. After an an hour and 25 minutes I took a taxi. There was no apology, no reimbursement, no anything, no explanation. Oh, the airport guy said it was common for them to take over an hour to get there. how ironic since they advertise how close they are to the airport.

Beautiful lobby, and nice rooms. The manager Alfonso is a very people person and this hotel should be so lucky to have him as their manager! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a central location near the airport! We would definitely stay there again in the future...

Room Tip: Overlooking the courtyard is lovely! :)

Because we were unable to get standby seats at SFO, we needed to stay overnight so that we would catch the first flight out the next morning. Through an airport hotel reference service, we booked a room at the CityGarden Hotel on S. Airport Blvd. Unfortunately, our stay was not a very pleasant experience. Although the room was clean, its amenities were very old and sparse. For example, there was no closet, there was no bathroom counter (just a free standing sink), the TV was an old Phillips model, the bed was hard, and there was a wide space at the bottom of the room's door that made it necessary to put a towel in front of it to block out the noise and cool night air. In addition, all three soft drink vending machines were not working, so we were unable to get beverages other than bottled water from the front desk. However, in keeping with its name, the hotel's garden was very nicely maintained. It would be nice if as much effort could be given to upgrading the rooms. This establishment should be categorized as a motel and not a hotel. We will not be staying there again.

Room Tip: Look for another hotel/motel.
