“Good location for access to SFO but a very average hotel”

I stayed here one night prior to a flight from SFO. I had been staying in San Jose for business but decided to move to a location closer to the airport to avoid fighting the traffic in the morning. I picked the La Quinta for the price and location. Many of the other available lodging options near SFO were in the $300-plus range for a room while the La Quinta was less than $150.

The La Quinta appears to be an older property, although the lobby has been updated. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very plain and a bit dated and a little beat up, but it was generally clean and comfortable. There were a couple of issues. First, the wifi was out of service the evening that I was there (I was told at the front desk that there were technical issues and that they were working on the problem but it was not fixed until very late that evening). Parking is tight around the hotel; the guests are allowed to use the parking for the Denny’s adjacent to the hotel. The breakfast was somewhat minimal. They specialize in waffles (self-serve). I did not have time to use the fitness room but I did peak in; small and only one treadmill and one elliptical machine.

But the point of the stay was to be close to the airport and for that the La Quinta was perfect, probably about a 10 minute drive from the hotel back to the rental car return. I would stay at the La Quinta again for ease of access to SFO, but I would not use the place as a long-term base for travel to the area.

Very comfortable hotel, breakfast included, loved having a fridge and microwave in the room - that was an added bonus! Felt we paid a fair price for all the amenities we received, clean, comfortable room.

We booked this through expedia and ended up with a "non-smoking room" on the smoking floor. Not sure the point of a room like this because clearly it smells like a "smoking room." We called the front desk and they told us because we didn't book with them directly (their website price was more expensive) we were never guarenteed a "non-smoking room." They offered deotarizer and that was it. When we went to take our showers we found hair in the tub and corners of the bathroom. An opened and used bar of soap was on the side. I called down to see if we could get at least a new bar of soap and the front desk said because we were not located in the main hotel she could not have anyone drop anything off until midnight. That was the time her security came and then they'd feel comfortable dropping it off. They also could not clean the bathroom or change our room for us. They did not offer anything for the poor quality of cleanliness or for what our reservations were for. Horrible service, dirty room. Will never stay at a La Quinta again!

We were traveling as a group of 2 women and a teenage girl. When we checked into the hotel we were told our room was in the"back" building which was a building behind the main building- seperated from the main building by railroad tracks. The front desk, breakfast, exercise room and airport shuttle were all in the main building. We drove around to the back building to check into our room. The area was dark and not well lit. We had to drive along the side of the hotel, between the hotel and a trucking business that was not fenced or seperated in any way from the hotel property, across the railroad tracks to our room in the "back" building. At 11pm trucks and train cars were being loaded and workers were outside transporting boxes with carts and fork lifts. The railroad tracks had no pedistrian crossing. We did not go into the room and returned to the front desk to get a different room. We were told that there was not another room available as we had booked using hotels.com and these were the rooms alloted for website reservations. When I asked how we were supposed to get our luggage from the back builing to the front lobby for a 5:00am shuttle pickup I was told that we were supposed to either carry our luggage to the lobby over the railroad tracks or use a luggage cart to transport it- crossing the railroad tracks! When I questioned this, I was told that "that is what people do." There was one young man working at the desk dealing with check-ins and phone calls all by himself. He was unable to help us, the policy was that these were the rooms for expedia and hotels.com customers and he could not do anything. There was no manager available to speak with. We had to return our rental car to the airport immediately so we were stuck. After a long and unpleasant discussion, the clerk gave us a room that was reserved but no one had checked into yet- fortunate for us but not for the family who would be checking in next. I cannot believe that the LaQuinta chain or the city of San Francisco would even allow this. While we were grateful to get a room in the main building, the bathroom was full of hair- from all body areas- in the tub and all over the floor and bathroom wall tile.

The Military Rewards rates are very reasonable and affordable. The Dublin, CA location is very clean, the staff is professional, the food is good but they could use more waffle makers. I think the pillow bed tops are too soft. They may want to offer rooms without the pillow bed tops.

Only make your own waffles was the highlight

The best and friendliest staff in the industry. The rooms are clean, and the beds are great. Walking distance to many good places to eat in south San Francisco. Very close to the San Francisco airport with a consistent shuttle.
