“Excellent Park and Fly Option”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2009

It’s been several years since we have used a “park and fly” hotel. Our last few experiences were so bad that we started doing one way car rentals that could be dropped off at the airport. This way when staying overnight before a trans-Pacific or trans-Atlantic flight we could pick a decent hotel.

Once I read the reviews on Inn at Oyster Point, I thought I would give park and fly one more try. When being gone for 3 weeks or more, your options are very limited. Oyster Point did not disappoint!

We live about 2 hours away from a major international airport, and did not arrive until about 10pm. Service was great and check in was easy. The room was large with a wonderful bed, bay window with cozy seating that overlooked the bay and a fireplace. Free wireless was available and so was breakfast, but our flight was so early we did not have breakfast.

The park and fly portion of the stay was the best part. The parking was not in the “back 40”, but right in front of the inn. Since our flight was so early, the inn had a taxi waiting for us the next morning (prepaid by the hotel). When we returned 3 weeks later, we called and the shuttle was there about 15 minutes later. The shuttle took us directly back to the hotel and dropped us off right at our car. Finally a great experience with a park and fly hotel. We will be back!

It's a pleasure to respond to your review, and we truly thank the time you took in writing it. It is so helpful for us to have someone provide other readers and TripAdvisor members of all the pluses of our hotel - it influences so many people, and we are truly indebted to you.

If it's any level of service or accommodation... from late checkins with warm, friendly, competent, staff, to large rooms with functional work areas, great views, and more - we can take care of it. In fact, if you have an early flight, just help make us aware, and we can be sure to get your breakfast to you in time. A few months ago it may have been more difficult, but our new kitchen and restaurant will be able to take care of you. It's our pleasure to make your travel day as simple, calm, and stress free as possible. If that includes food a little earlier than the others, we completely understand. =)

We also have to thank you for commenting on the park and fly - it is a convenient option that is friendly to the pocket book as well. We are happy to have impressed you, and know that when others read your amazing description, it will help us to no end! So we must thank you again, and cannot wait to have you back. The new spin on our rooms and lobby will be fun, and add a whole new dimension to your appreciation of us. Cheers, and be well!

Sincerely,
Michael | Online Concierge

We tried this hotel flying out of San Francisco Airport after reading my reviews on others. Although they dont have a shuttle van they pay for a taxi back and forth to Airport. Very easy and no hassles with multiple stops at other hotels. Staff was always friendly and helpful. They delivered a continental breakfast to our room in the morning and everything was hot and fresh. Beautiful view of the harbor, gas fireplace, and a comfortable bed.

Although they are probably 10 minutes from the Airport, it was an easy relaxed place to stay.

Thank you so much for your review, and your high regards! It means a lot for people to notice the fantastic job we do. Tripadvisor is such a vital tool for us to listen to our guests and grow, but the majority of the time we are lucky enough to celebrate positive comments and good tidings such as yours.

We are also happy to mention that we certainly do have an SFO airport shuttle, but during some off peak hours our shuttle is "docked" so to speak - and we came up with the taxi reimbursement as a convenient option, so that our guests can continue to receive the consistently helpful, convenient, and friendly service we are known for! Beyond that, we have redecorated our rooms to a much more comfortable and modern tone, our restaurant is newly renovated and reopened, and the hotel has been updated for a much more positive and vibrant entrance. We are excited to have you as guests in the future, and share all the exciting new updates and features!

Thank you again for your review. We hope this finds you well, and hope to see you again, soon!

Sincerely,

Michael | Online Concierge

My wife and I just used the Inn at Oyster Point for our park and fly hotel. The room was very large and nicely furnished. We had an incredible view of the bay and a sail boat race that was under way that evening.
The staff was extremely helpful and the breakfast that was delivered in the a.m. before leaving for our flight was perfect. They also included free wireless Internet access.
This is a very good value, especially if you will be gone for any length of time. They allow 14 days parking with the stay and only charge $1 for each additional day.
We arrived back into SFO at 5 a.m. and when we called the hotel the had us take a cab to the hotel and reimbursed us for the ride immediately.
I would highly recommend this for anyone considering a hotel for a "park & fly" stay.

It is exciting to finally understand what our guests are telling us... We are the perfect Park n Fly option! Thank you so much for you review, and we whole heartedly agree! =)

14 days of parking, plenty of spaces, & a great South San Francisco waterfront community - with each additional day at one little dollar. To go away on business or vacation for an entire month, and return to a $14 parking bill is a dream come true for most people. We are thrilled to be in the position to offer this amenity. Friendly staff, free wireless, clean, and spacious rooms - and undoubtedly an even better breakfast, now that our new restaurant is open. We know we will impress all our new guests! In fact, our first way of impressing people is through reviewers like you, and we can't thank you enough. We hope this finds you well, and we appreciate the time you took adding your thoughts - we truly value them!

I had stayed at this hotel a few years ago and thought it was quite charming and with the in-room continental breakfast service it was worth the extra money. When I saw that the price had come down about 1/3 (economy?? / no on site restaraunt any longer??) I thought I would go there again. We travel to SF 8 to 10 times a year for Giants or 49er games so I am pretty familiar with what is out there. The thought of fog rolling in and a fire place in August- as it is in triple digits in Sacramento thrilled me. We checked in late-10-10:30pm to find that a wedding reception was going on next door - the music was very loud so we had to shut the windows-then, the fireplace did not work-the front desk gal "Lydia" was VERY nice and tried to light it herself, but I don't even think the gas was on-she offered to look for another room for us, but as late as it was we didn't want to move. Breakfast came right on time, with exactly what we ordered-unfortunately the half/half for the coffee was spoiled and ruined the whole experience.
The hotel did not offer comment cards (that I could find) - I did let the girl at the desk upon checkout know that the firplace was out of order as a reminder to place a work order for it. The rooms are starting to show signs of age and wear and tear.
The room also offers a mini-bar as the restaruant was closed down- I think I read where they might have it opening in a month or two-
It is a very cute place, nice water view, away from the freeway traffic, but not the airplanes -
I would recommend this hotel to couples only- who were not looking to be overly impressed.

I apologize for your past experience, and am really excited to write you with good news. We are completely empathetic to what happened, and are accountable to precisely what you mentioned. In fact, your comments are what helped us take action at our property, and update some of the issues you had to deal with.

Ownership changed in the middle of last year, and the drawbacks you mentioned are all being dealt with by our new ownership and management group. They are bringing our hotel back to life with a new energy... reviving it into a quaint and hip atmosphere in a calm, relaxing setting. You will be happy to know that we are "charming", once again. =) The fireplaces are now in fine working order, as well, and we have been paying *MUCH* stricter attention to the noise ordinance regarding the conference center.

As to the wear and tear - it is no longer there! This actually is associated with your cream issue, as well... when our restaurant was closed, the entire breakfast experience became much less special for guests, and not without problems. With our newly restored and reopened restaurant, the breakfast is more bountiful and delicious than ever. If you give us another opportunity, we are sure to please. Our renovation should be finished upon your next visit, but be sure to inquire.... our new rooms will impress with their updated and vibrant tone.

You did mention a tremendous advantage for many of our savvy guests - we are convenient to just about everywhere if it involves a sporting event. Whether it's Candlestick Park for the 49'ers, or AT&T Park for a Giants game, we are located within a few short minutes, while still feeling romantic and miles away from the hustle and bustle of a San Francisco or SFO hotel.

As for comment cards, we value them highly, and it was one of our first changes. They shouldn't be too hard to find, now. What's more, you already know the "new comment card" - this site. It helps us be engaged and involved with our community... learning from our guests, and growing with every review. We appreciate you taking the time to help others in writing this, as well as informing us of what we needed to take care of. We hope you return to see how we've done! It would be our honor to have you again, and learn from any further comments.... or celebrate making you happy with our charming inn, once again!

Thank you very much, and we hope this finds you well.

Sincerely,
Michael | Online Concierge

This is not a conventional Sheraton-type hotel, nor is it a renovated Victorian. It's a quirky place in a great location if you're coming from or going to SF airport. They either shuttle you or pay for the taxi. We've stayed here twice in a few years and found it excellent value for money and the staff really friendly and helpful. The hotel is located in something like a commercial park and marina -- so no homes nearby, but views out the window are of water, boats, sunrise, clouds, some airplanes. The rooms, which are not remarkably decorated, are nevertheless very spacious and have gas fireplaces.
And yes, unfortunately, no restaurants nearby, either. This is the biggest drawback. You must have a car or be prepared to pay for a taxi. (There's a Chinese shopping area with good restaurants within 10-15 min) The continental breakfast has no hot foods, no meats. You get cereal, pastries, some fresh fruit, juice, and coffee/tea. They happily bring it to your room, allowing those of us who've just traveled from the eastern US to savor sunrise and coffee in bed. Within those limits, I wouldn't stay anywhere else in the area.

It is a pleasure responding to your review... you understand what we are, and you truly help others get the experience of our SFO hotel! It might be fun for you to review what has changed after your next stay - and I am excited to show you all that is different at our inn! We had a change in ownership at the property, and we are finally updating different aspects of our hotel that needed some attention. Our hotel is attached to a conference center, so we are perfect for people that need a larger meeting venue (or our smaller boardroom in the hotel). But there isn't much else to interfere with a calm, relaxing experience - staring at the bay, the boats, and the water.

Our rooms, I promise you, are *finally* remarkable decorated. You can view some of the pictures here, on this site. We are almost done with our renovation and redecorating, so make sure to ask for one of the rooms on your next stay; I imagine they will all be done prior to your return. What *is* open is our new restaurant, which will truly enhance your stay, as well as add a pleasant dose of simplicity. We hope you appreciate it, and are eager to hear your thoughts on your next stay. We are really excited to see more guests share their pics of all of our improvements and updates - we know they help a lot. In any case, we will surely have better snapshots soon. Until then, be well & thank you very much for your review!

Sincerely,

My husband and I stayed here as part of a Park-Sleep-Fly deal for our flight to/from San Francisco. After staying at another airport hotel (near industrial areas and the rail road tracks!) with so-so rooms and an airport shuttle that went around to about five other hotels, we were ready for something different. The Inn at Oyster Point is in a lovely location across from a park and marina. The staff was very cheerful and did all they could to make our stay nice, given the limited amenities of the hotel. For example, breakfast is not served until 6:30AM (though they will bring it to your room) so we only got a modified version (breakfast rolls and yogurt) in our in-room fridge since we had to leave at 6AM for our outbound flight. There is no restaurant at the hotel. Also, they have their own shuttle but it does not run especially early or late (it could not accommodate us at 6AM or 9PM) However, they will order a taxi for you and pay the fare. This led to a horrible taxi ride to the airport as obviously the guy was on a fixed rate and drove at breakneck speeds and almost drove off with our luggage. However, it is faster and more direct than having to take a round-about airport shuttle that stops at other hotels, too. The rooms are cute and fairly spacious with large bathrooms and even a fireplace (at least, ours were) and good beds, though the chairs are shabby and the carpet is horrible. The hotel has definitely seen better days. However, given the other not-too-pleasant hotels in this price range in South San Fran, we would definitely return to the Inn at Oyster Point and recommend it to friends.

Thank you so much for your informative review! You bring up some excellent points, that we sometimes forget to highlight - such as our airport van which is ours, alone. A lot of the hotels subsidize the cost of running a shuttle by splitting it... among *many* different South San Francisco hotels. That's not only not fair... it's exasperating! If you knew your hotel rate included a 45 minute van ride, you might reconsider! Our aim is to bookmark your travel days with incredible calm, and simplicity. From waking up in a comfortable bed, having a filling delicious breakfast, and getting to the airport.... to arriving here, kicking off the shoes, and relaxing before your next business or travel day.

We are thrilled, however, to tell you about the hotel's "better days" that you mentioned... THEY ARE HERE! We are very excited to let you know... the restaurant and lounge is reopened - not only perfect for hotel guests, but a little community of South San Francisco business locals are showing up, as well! The rooms and lobby have been updated, too. Thank you for letting others know about us - and giving us the opportunity to please future guests. We are even more excited to share our new look with you, so do not hesitate to let us know when you can return!

Thank you again - your review means a lot to us, and does much to get the word out about our little SFO inn!

Sincerely,

After seeing that this was the #1 rated hotel in South SF, I was pretty excited to check in but was immediately disappointed. The hotel is quite old and out-dated. My colleagues and I checked in mid-evening and there were no food options, so we had to go down the street to another hotel for dinner - we should have just stayed there. Breakfast was continental and served in the room and the options were blah. Trip Advisor steered me wrong on this one; I had bragged to my colleagues that I found this great inn by the airport but was embarrassed once we got there.

I did enjoy the fireplace in my room and it is quite close to SFO, but these aren't enough to make me stay there again.

Celebrating the power of these new methods of communication, like TripAdvisor, means that the entire culture of our business changes - and we need to be deferential while accountable when expectations are not met. We strive to offer the greatest service of any hotel... not just in South San Francisco, but in the entire state of California. Our employees have always been top notch professionals, and we pride ourselves in the service we offer. As a living and breathing business, however, we have our ups and downs. There was a very short period (mid 2009) that the hotel transitioned ownership. At that time, our management group immediately became accountable for the outdated property. You will be happy to know, since last year, the hotel has had a number of fantastic improvements, which may make you reconsider us in the future.

We have reopened the restaurant, now called South Harbor Waterfront Restaurant, and it is better than ever. An attached bar gives you an option to have a small bite or conversation, and a patio deck with views to the harbor and bay give you a place to relax and lounge.

Our lobby is being completely renovated, just as are our rooms. Some new pictures of the room design are on this site, and you can see how we are taking special care to re-energize and restore the vibrancy and nuanced fun of this hotel and location.

We really hope you might give us another chance next time you are in town. If all these changes, and more (such as a new website), don't court you back as a guest, we completely understand. If that is the case, we need to let you know we truly appreciate your review! As we continue the process of improving our property, your comments will be of immense help to us. We apologize for the impact it had with your business associates, as well. Reputation is a vital aspect in performing business, and we never meant to jeopardize that. We are sorry that happened, but can assure you - we are now the next generation of business hotel, and would be honored to have you back.

Thank you again, and hope this finds you well.

Sincerely,

Michael | Online Concierge
