Wonderful local theater with some equity presence. They do an admirable job, and are one of our favorites.

The Christmas play we saw was excellent. We have seen several of their shows over the years and they are always of professional quality. Sonora is a quaint 1800's Gold Rush town, so you don't expect theatre productions with "big city" quality and talent. If you go, you need to at least spend the weekend! It is a great "home base" place to stay because in addition to the very cute, historic downtown shopping area, there are so many things to do nearby . . . Columbia State Historic Park, 1898 Railtown in Jamestown, Big Trees Park in Arnold, beautiful Pine Crest Lake (fun outdoor family movies on summer evenings), 2 local wineries with wine tasting, and then numerous others in the nearby town of Murphys (including the amazing Kautz Vineyards), fantastic restaurants (surprised that none are listed on Trip Advisor!), and Yosemite is under an hour and a half away. Great vacation spot or weekend getaway!

I've seen a couple shows here, State Fair and Thoroughly Modern Millie, both of which I went to knowing nothing about besides a general description. The theater was smaller so the seats both times were great, getting to really see the expressions on the actor's faces, hearing everything loud and clear. I loved it. If you book online they hold the better seats for those customers than if you just show up and pay. We travel a good hour or so to go, but we think it's worth it. A fun way to get outta town, maybe get a B&B for a nice romantic weekend. That's what we're planning this weekend in fact! Just make sure you remember WHICH theater to go to, East Sonora or Fallon House, we forgot to make sure getting our directions and ended up at the wrong one, and got to the right one late! At least they aren't TOO far away from each other.

We just saw Moonlight & Magnolias at the East Sonora Theatre - funny, funny, funny! This just goes to show what three union actors can do when they're thrown together with a good script and some direction. Go and see this show, or go see any show at this theater, they produce really excellent, professional shows!
