Our Thanksgiving trip was fabulous, due much to the attentive service. Astrid made sure we were aware of events we wouldn't have known about otherwise. Dan's breakfasts were delicious and inventive, and made with humorous comments from the kitchen. They accommodated a couple who wanted to eat in their room, as well as a family with a typically persnickety child. One evening an informal party developed in the living area. The facilities are thoughtfully decorated with marvelous Victorian pieces from the era, as well as original art. Morning coffee delivered to our room was a spcial treat.

While the weather may not have been the best, Astrid, Dan and their incredibly beautiful house high on a hill in Sonora made it seem like paradise. We stayed in the Merlot Room, a relatively recent addition to their various wine-rooms and it was simply beautiful. The Merlot has a separate private entrance, not one, but two private patios, a very comfortable king sized bed, a large soaking tub and a luxurious rainfall shower. We simply loved the room and would absolutely recommend this one, although all the rooms are gorgeous. Danny provides coffee and tea outside your room every morning and prepares a delicious breakfast. You can dine with the other guests in their dining room, or if you choose, have breakfast brought to your room (a nice romantic touch). Astrid can recommend restaurants and activities (we chose wine tasting up in Murphys) in and around Sonora.

Would we go back? Yes!!! Would we recommend Barretta Gardens Inn? Yes!!! We had a fabulous mini-getaway and the centerpiece was this beautiful home and the lovely, friendly, warm and gracious hosts. Stay here and you will not be disappointed.

My wife and I just returned from an overnight stay at the Barretta Gardens in mid-October. We were on a tour of several towns in the California Gold Country and had planned one night in Sonora. We had reservations at the Barretta Gardens and had a great experience. Both Danny and Astrid were great hosts. The house was very well maintained, very clean and included coffee at 8:00 in the morning on the dot and a delicious breakfast. Astrid was very helpful and gave us several recommendations of wineries in the area which we visited and had a wonderful experience. I would recommend this B&B to all travelers who enjoy the B&B experience.

My husband and I decided to "get away" for the weekend and booked the Cabernet Savignon Suite at at Baretta Gardens. It was perfect. The bed was very comfortable and the private sitting area provided extra space which we used and enjoyed. The hosts are most welcoming - we arrive late (Friday traffic!) and the hosts invited us to eat dinner with them which we gladly accepted. Breakfast was served outside on the porch and was delicious. Astrid and Daniel have made this home into a wonderful Inn.

One of the most significant things that makes a B&B more than just the run of the mill are the owners or staff members. We found Barretta Gardens on line and carefully read all the reviews going back to when the previous owner’s owned Barretta Gardens ending in 2005. Danny and Astrid took over ownership sometime that year. You won’t find a bad review since they have owned the facility. They totally make the place what it is as you will feel immediately like you have reconnected with old friends. We have yet to come across owners as friendly. The inn is charming and will take you a step back in time. Even if you aren’t crazy about the Victorian era, all the amenities you would expect to find at a B&B are present. The bed was the best, very comfortable and all the linens were in excellent condition and very good quality. The room we selected had a 14” television which was smaller than we were used to but aside from that, everything else was perfect. Both Danny and Astrid prepare the most healthy and attractively served breakfasts. Each morning something different was presented. We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent with the two of them sharing a bottle of wine and birthday cake and chatting about everything imaginable. They gave us some great advice for restaurants and also the history on each one that we considered. Great people, great home, great food…..you can’t go wrong.

We had a very comfortable stay at Barretta Gardens. It is well thought out in terms of making it comfortable for guests. Our room for example had a plexiglas panel that at first look didn't make sense. In the morning I noticed what a great job it did in dampening the noise from morning street traffic. Each room has its own thermostat, which again emphasizes the comfort of the guests. The tricky part is in doing this and not sacrificing the quaintness and beauty of the property, which they've done successfully. Breakfast was a visual and palatable joy.

Astrid & Danny have done an amazing job converting this classic Victorian into a welcoming home with all of the character, comfort and service of a great B&B. As well as having delightful bedrooms, the house and gardens are full of relaxing settings where you can party with the hosts or relax in peace. Also a good location for exploring Sonoma, Jamestown, Columbia and Murphys. Pinecrest Lake also well worth a visit with tons of great hiking.
