“Excellent food!”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

We ate here mostly because our first choice had closed down already. We were planning on visiting after dinner, so we made a full date of it. What a nice surprise! The food was so good we ordered another appetizer that we couldn't finish! Trivia night was finishing up when we got there so we waited a few minutes to get a table, but their beer lineup was pretty good so the wait didn't seem bad at all. It's a very small place, but there's lots of patio seating when the weather is warm.
The menu was seasonal using local produce. The chef did a nice job creating fresh dishes.
For not expecting much, I was very very impressed, and will most definitely be coming back next time I'm in town

“Great Experience”
Reviewed December 1, 2013 via mobile

Tried this place and liked it so much that we returned. The food was very, very good. Of special note are the bacon wrapped jalapeños and the frisée salad with roasted beets and warm goat cheese. We were really impressed with the quality of the food, which was clearly home made and not purchased frozen food. Also, the balance of the flavors was perfect. Service was never an issue; we were promptly seated and our order taken. The food arrived after a reasonable timeframe and, the timing between service for the appetizers and entrees was perfect. This was a nice change of pace and a break from all the wine and extravagance of wine country.

“good food, spotty service.”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

We had a really good meal here, which was pretty much ruined by the poor service. Our waitress was pleasant, but not really on the ball. We noticed other diner's food arriving before ours, even tho we were seated first. Seems like they really cater to their local clientele over the visitor. Our appetizers were a while coming, I was beginning to think they would arrive the same time as the meal! We got the freckles, deep fried pickles which were very good. I had the harvest pasta and my husband a chicken sandwich, both very good. They really need to work on their service. I had to ask several times for a refill on my iced tea, she just didn't seem to get around to bringing it. The other people who were helping her were good, tho.

“Week long trip to California”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

After a long day of travelling, we arrived in Sonoma. We had snacks at our B&B, and then visited Sonoma's Farmers Market - this was excellent, with so many local items, little bites to taste and lots of folks enjoying the warm evening outdoors in the main square. So, maybe that's why we were so disappointed with Murphy's, which had been recommended by a local. By the time we arrived, it was too cool to sit on the patio and enjoy the live music. We sat inside, which smelled a bit stale. I ordered a plate of beef burger sliders, which was just OK. My dining partner ordered the Shepherd's Pie, which he said was bland and boring. The local beers we tried were good, but not good enough to make us stay - we moved on after eating.

Great local bar and great food. Interesting items on the menu. Kale and pumpkin salad was great as well as the fish tacos! Great service and beer selection! What else can you ask for??
