I stayed at the Hidden Oak Inn the first weekend in August with 9 other girlfriends. Needless to say we took up the entire house. The location is great, the house is beautiful, the swimming pool and hot tube are wonderful, and the breakfast was amazing (you have to try the homemade granola). I arrived around 5pm and was greeted with wine and cheese. Before bed cookies were left up stairs for our enjoyment. The customer service was amazing. We needed extra beds and the owner did not skip a beat in getting us an air mattress and letting us know where extra sheets and pillows were located. I felt right at home and only wished my house was a beautiful as this one. I highly suggest staying here if you are looking for a great place blocks from Sonoma's downtown (walking distance to all the restaurants and biking distance to many wineries). I plan on staying at Hidden Oak Inn the next time I go to Sonoma.

I stayed at The Hidden Oak Inn in July 2012 with three girlfriends for the Napa to Sonoma half marathon. The location was perfect for us, located right near the finish line of the race. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed wine tasting and superb restaurants in the area (Zazu and Bottega). Valerie was incrediby hospitable and is uniquely talented in the kitchen. During our stay we were treated to quiche, homemade granola, fresh fruit, the most amazing stuffed french toast... not to mention the delightful cheese and wine in the afternoon. Cookies in teh evening were a nice touch. The pool and hot tub were clean and relaxing and our room was tended to appropriately. The inn itself was beautiful and looked like something out of Better Homes and Gardens, both inside and out. We already booked our reservation for next year and look forward to this annual tradition!

Room Tip: The French Lilac room will accomodate 4 people comfortably.

The Hidden Oak Inn is what I had imagined a B&B should be: owners on property, intimate knowledge of the local area and pride of ownership. The location is truly walking distance from the Sonoma square and even over 4th of July, parking right in front was never a problem. The morning breakfast included preheated coffee mugs, fruit and homemade granola. Being wine country the evening wine and cheese paring are top notch and well presented with selections from local wineries and shops. The rooms were complete with corkscrew, the refrigerator in the hall always had bottled water and every night, no matter how late we returned there was a homemade snack waiting for us. We were persuaded to do the fireworks in Sonoma in lieu of the San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf we had planned and we found the whole experience to be very quaint, small town and friendly with an excellent fireworks display and the Inn made a blanket available for us to use.
The layout is three themed bedrooms on the top floor all decorated and equipped with everything you will need (as long as you are not a TV junkie) such a hair dryer, plenty of towels, soap, shampoo, in room drinking glasses, ironing board (in hallway closet). The wireless worked well and we used our ipad to stay up on our favorite HBO shows. The HVAC system worked well and there was plenty of hot water, even with the Inn being full during our visit.
I gave the Hidden Oak Inn the highest rating because the only negative is completely beyond the control of the owners, the central location of Sonoma makes it a great base from which to explore wine country, it also makes the location a crossroads and making wine is no different than any other farming operation, it involves long hours that start early in the AM with trailers and diesel powered trucks, being 2 blocks off the square there is a 4 way stop sign about 30ft down the street from the two front bedrooms requiring every vehicle to come to a complete stop, so if you like to sleep in a little and are a light sleeper the braking and accelerating of the trucks and trailers loaded down with equipment may hinder you from sleeping much past 7am. Again I provide this only as a note for light sleepers, if you are looking to hear only the sounds of birds and the wind you may want to stay in a more secluded B&B, off the beaten path, as the Hidden Oak Inn is located in a residential area 2 blocks from the town square, of course if you want to park your car and partake of everything the Town of Sonoma has to offer there is no better place to start or end your day then the Hidden Oak Inn.

Room Tip: The Liliac Room we stayed in had a full size murphy bed, the room on the north east side at the rear...

...and I've stayed in a few!

Astonishing attention to detail.
Things I love about this place;

Nightlight in en suite so you don't wake up your sleeping parter.
Basket of random mobile phone chargers incase you forgot your own.
Tea, coffee, wine, cheese, cookies, cake etc on arrival and available all day!
Swimming pool AND hot tub.
A TRUELY BRILLIANT BREAKFAST!

In short, book yourself in here, you simply will not regret it.
Period.

This place is just great! It's quiet, yet right in the heart of Sonoma, just minutes away from the best Sonoma has to offer (Girl & the Fig, Cafe la Haye, Sebastiani Theater, etc.) The rooms are excellent, the beds are super comfortable, and Valerie, is not only a great cook, but great with recommendations as well. On top of all that, there's the wine tastings each night and bikes at your disposal. All in all it's just a great place and I can't wait to go back!

We stayed 4 nights here in mid-May 2012. The location is fantastic - walking distance to Sonoma plaza, shops & restaurants. Really nice pool in the back yard to have a refreshing swim in after a hot day. Big bedrooms and comfy bed. Nancy the innkeeper was very friendly and helpful with her tips on wineries and restaurants. Keep in mind that there is no TV either in the bedrooms or the main room downstairs. We enjoyed the breakfasts as well. We would recommend this to our friends.

We recently stayed here for 3 nights and had a lovely relaxing visit. It's a charming house and we had a nice size room with plenty of space to move around. Val was very welcoming and even though she wasn't there when we arrived a little later than planned there was a plate of cheese and biscuits with a bottle of wine to welcome us. The house is in a great location just five minutes walk from the square where a lot of stuff happens and where there are plenty of restaurant options for dinner.

Slept like a baby each night in the king size bed. Breakfast each day was great with fresh fruit and the famous granola and hot options as well if desired. Hot croissants and home made jam were also fantastic.

Val's recommendations for winery visits also paid off as we had a fantastic tour of the Benziger winery and vineyard. Pay the extra for the partner tour, you won't be disappointed. It's a great experience.

Thanks Val. We had a lovely time and thanks also for the loan of the cool box for the picnic - invaluable when the average temp was in the low 80s.

PS. Loved the cookies in the afternoon and especially the Jelly Bean machine on the landing!
