“great food with wonderful atmosphere”

this is the type of restaurant you hope to find in Sonoma County. Locally produced food and excellently prepared. I had a lamb dish that was spectacular and the vegetables were outstanding. Highly recommend this place

“A rainy night in Sonoma with Harvest Moon Cafe warmth!”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

Our first visit to Sonoma......and first restaurant off property (Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa) - and it was off-season...but a great time to go to gauge the destination.....no crowds; sunshine all week except late in the day we visited Harvest Moon Cafe. All the staff and others we met said rain was welcome as long dry spell........and they got their wish - a steady downpour all evening. Harvest Moon was a highlight - warming the tummy & soul.........We had a choice of cosy inside (close quarters with open kitchen) or backyard tent with heaters which we chose for roominess. A real treat....an amazing arugula/proscuitto/walnut salad with just right amount/style of vinagarette (proscuitto was to die for...filmy thin; not overwhelming salty; fabulous flavour combo); an appetizer (made into a main) ravioli & carmelized onion in broth plus a wild mushroom risotto. Wine pairings were great and all in all another excellent meal on Sonoma itinerary. Service was very friendly & staff accommodating with suggestion which led to an amazing dessert - homemade icecream with brownie but so much better than normal.......husband and wife team put in the effort personally and it shows. Simple dishes excelling. The best news - one of our most reasonable meals ever.......food items for the quality are way above norm and wine are priced well. Easy to see why we could not get a reservation in off-season within 24 hour notice prior to 8:45 (although they seated us 20 minutes prior) in this highly ranked spot.
How good was it? Had we not had reservations at another highly recommended restaurant we would have gone back the following night!

“Finally we understood what farm to table really meant”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

We have been to several places on this trip who talk about this but this was the first place where we really felt the food reflected the philosophy. We had fresh salad based starters that were absolutely delicious and my husbands steak (and trust me he is really fussy) was great as was my mildly spiced lamb shoulder. Home made bread is really good too.
Really nice engaged staff and a feeling that this was somewhere that was really part of the community.

“Great food, congenial atmosphere”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

Yum. The rib eye steak was one of the best ever eaten in any restaurant according to one of the folks in our party. the fish dish was also perfect, with thought to what accompanied it. A nice size serving of veggies, instead of the usual 'garnish' that has sadly become the modus operandi for so many places these days. Informal and funky interior (they have an outside heated eating area we did not check out though). Several parts of the restaurant, one of which overlooks the kitchen so you can watch the cooks do their thing.

“Local, Philosophical, Sustainable”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

From a business standpoint, using food purchased from the local community not only puts you in good standing with the neighbors business, but add in the fact that most is bio-dynamic, and organic. Throw all that together adding some great local Sonoma and Napa wine, movies on Wednesday's, and a fantastic menu that changes daily, and you have the Harvest Moon Café.

There are so many wonderful restaurants in wine country and nearby San Francisco. After eating at higher end locations like Fleur de Lys, 5A5 Steak Lounge, and The French Laundry, I was in the mood for somewhere casual, while at the same time enjoying some wonderful food. My friend and I were visited Kamen vineyards in Sonoma, and we asked about recommendations for a place to eat in Sonoma, and the Harvest Moon Café was the first on their list. Apparently Robert, the owner of Kamen frequented the café several times a week. Kamen Vineyards prepared the reservations for us, and we were on our way. The restaurant is located in downtown Sonoma, attached to a larger group of buildings with Mom and Pop stores, country style. It was good to see considering most of these types of places have been replaced by Wal-Mart's and Home Depot's. It was located across the street from the city park and Courthouse building, where plenty of parking is available.

My friend started with the local mixed green salad, smothered in white truffle-honey vinaigrette, with pecans and pink pearl apples. I started with the little gem lettuce salad, topped with a buttermilk-chive dressing mixed with marinated beets and crispy shallots.

For an in between course my friend and I split the Bucatini pasta dish, mixed with Gulf shrimp, basil-pine nut pesto, little tomatoes, and fresh parmesan.

For entrée course my friend had the Niman Ranch Ribeye Steak with Greek Gigante beans, sautéed rapini topped with a Zinfandel sauce. I stuck with the main seafood course of the evening and that was the Sautéed Pacific Halibut, a wonderful white flaky fish served with herbed Quinoa grains, wild mushrooms, and a tarragon butter sauce. I was in heaven. The Halibut was much better here than at a restaurant I ate at in San Fransisco called Alioto's which I have a review for here on Trip Advisor also.
