“The other cheese factory”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2012

This site is dedicated to the Cheese Factory on E. Spain street where you can get delicious cheeses and a bite to eat. This is actually a newer cheese factory conveniently located on the plaza where tourists can easily find it. But, worth seeking out is the original cheese factory, a couple of blocks away on 1st Street east to the north of Spain street. That is the original cheese factory for Vella cheese and is in a wonderful historic building. Well worth the extra couple of blocks to get a true sense of what this business was like for decades.

The original cheese factory is in a blocked building with the storefront in the front and the cheese factory in the back. In the storefront, are pre-wrapped cheeses and a long counter where you can have cheese cut to your specifications. They are more than willing to vacuum pack anything you want (a good thing if you are traveling). You get a discount on entire wheels of cheese. This is the store that I almost always shop in. It allows me to (1) park easily, (2) avoid the crowds and (3) have terrific service. I also just like the building and ambiance.

“Great casual dining”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2012

We ordered food from the grill while shopping - avoided the crowds at the bakeries for a late breakfast/early lunch. Food was very good, not fussy. We had tacos and panini and both were really tasty. We shopped as we waited and after we ate. Staff were very friendly and helpful and offered samples of fudge and cheese. Picked items to ship for ourselves and gifts. It was a great experience and no crowds if you go to the Cheese Factory in the morning.

“Great spot on the square!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2012

Gifts, coffee, sandwiches, cheese, wine, desserts... what is not to love. We had stuff off the grill as well as a deli sandwich. Then the gelato, we could not pass up. Cheese samples later in the week with purchasing fudge and jam to take home. A great spot to stop!
