After reading many glowing reviews, we we're really looking forward to celebrating our anniversary at Sante. We weren't disappointed, as we enjoyed one of the best dining experiences of our lives. The decor is not spectacular, but elegant and cozy. The service was impeccable, with just the right amount of attention. Renee, the sommelier, was wonderful choosing the perfect wine accompaniments for our food. And the food, well it is obvious why they have garnered such high praise from many prestigious travel reviewers. From, the first bite , a wonderful morsel of toasted brioche and Kobe tartar, to the last spoonful of the chocolate anglaise soufflé, this was a perfect meal. Too often, highly touted restaurants don't live up to the hype, this was one of those rare instances when they actually exceeded it.

The service was OK: friendly and thoughtful, if a bit too earnest and very self-conscious (the best service is unobtrusive, doesn't call attention to itself). The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere. The wines we selected were first rate. But the food was disappointing.

Six of us spent a week in San Francisco and Sonoma/Napa, including three nights at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn (which we DO recommend as a fine place to stay). We are all experienced travelers and diners-out. Our dinner at Sante on September 21 was the most expensive and culinarily the least successful meal of the week. Two of us had lamb; it was gristly and cold (I guess it was a blessing that the portions were skimpy). The other entrees were rated fair, at best. The following night my wife had a much better meal, at half the price, at the Inn's downscale restaurant, Big 3: not much in the way of atmosphere, but the service was good and the food was excellent (I had halibut, prepared perfectly).

If you go to Sante, I hope your experience is better than ours. We had better meals in the area, not only at Big 3, but also at The Girl & Fig and (especially) at the Kenwood Grill.

Paul was our server although there were a team of people that served all told. Exccelent rapport with guests, excellent service and the food and beverage are worthy of the Four Stars they earned. Been here three wonderful time, be back again. Want to find a great spot to celebrate an event? Leave it up to the staff there and you'll leave talking about it.

We stayed at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and decided at the last moment to try out Sante. I can't believe we actually got in seeing their new Michelin Star rating. We ordered the Tasting Menu and were not disappointed. The Sweet corn and black truffle risotto was divine and the butter-poached Maine lobster BLT was heaven. The pinnacle of the tasting menu was the Roasted sirloin of american kobe style beef. Words cannot express the exquisite taste.

The service was impeccable. Adam, who is the senior-most member of the wait staff was indeed excellent, as well as his partner Matt.

The dinner was well worth the price.

We traveled to San Francisco, Sausalito, and then Sonoma over 8 days. Our final dinner was at Sante because we were too tired to travel out for dinner. The restaurant is on the small side. We had a table by the window overlooking the pool. We received great service and the food was very good. It wasn't the best meal we had over 7 nights, but it was very good and you can't beat the walk back to your room.

If you are looking for a special meal in the area, drive to Cyrus if you can afford to eat there ($450 for dinner, drinks and tip for 2). I wouldn't do Cyrus on your last night. Long drive and you will be stuffed. Also try Solbar in Calistoga.
