We came to Sara's Cottage as part of my birthday holiday - it was my favourite place that we stayed on the whole trip. I loved everything about the cottage, especially all the ornaments and crockery and fabrics - there's been lots of thought put into the decor and it's perfect. The bed was really comfortable and it was great fun to eat dinner and drink wine out on the porch every night. Breakfast was nice and Joe was very welcoming. I would love to come back one day.

Sadly we only stayed for a single night but would have loved to stay longer. We had the "Indian Room". We arrived early and were greeted by Joe, our friendly host, who advised that our room wasn't ready but gave us a great card for numerous free tastings at local wineries and lots of other local information.

When we returned later we found that our room had a lovely sunny balcony with a great view over the valley. Lots of antiquey details in the room were a nice touch, the total opposite of todays identi-kit sparsely decorated hotels. Bed was comfortable, lovely roll-top bath with shower and nice cosmetics, aircon in room, and plenty of storage space.

Breakfast was served on the sunny deck just off the kitchen. It consisted of melon, granola & fruit, pastries, (huge) muffins, hard-boiled eggs, freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee. Just what we needed to set us up for a day of wine tasting.

We stayed at the Sonoma Chalet for 3 nights and were very pleased. The atmosphere was welcoming and peaceful. Our host, Joe, provided and excellent breakfast and was very friendly but not obtrusive. We felt like the B&B was our home for 3 nights. The rooms and bathroom was very clean.

We recently had out 3rd visit to Sonoma Chalet (only missing last year due to new grandchild). We couldn't wait to get there - it really feels like our home from home, except that the weather's much better and someone else does breakfast. Joe made us very welcome again and we stayed in a sweet room we hadn't tried before. As good as ever and with our own little balcony to enjoy a glass of wine and the evening birdsong, and a lovely drawing room - with a bottle of sherry and some great old magazines. Very nice and relaxing. No TV and plenty of corners to curl up in with a book. We would recommend this to anyone who wants something very comfortable, charming and slightly eccentric (well yes, we're English) - but rather different from a golf resort spa hotel! Can't wait to get back there next year.

My husband and I have been staying in Sara's Cottage every year since our honeymoon in 2003, and now it just feels like an extension of home! We love the location and the privacy. Joe has always been so good to us and we look forward to seeing him every year. We can walk to the square in Sonoma quite easily, yet the cottage is very quiet and the views from both the front and side porches are so nice. We prefer to have breakfast served in the cottage, and Joe shows up faithfully every morning bearing a tray laden with fresh pastries, fat croissants, boiled eggs, yogurt/fruit parfaits as well as wonderful coffee & juice. We often eat breakfast outside even in November if weather permits! In the afternoons we can enjoy our wine and cheese on either the front or side porch, or curled up in front of the wood burning stove on chillier days, enjoying a glass (or three) of sherry from the bottle Joe provides in the cottage. Heaven.

The interior is comfortable and adequate, the decor is quirky! Yes, the furniture is rather old and the couch is definitely shot, but we still love it and it's still comfy. The bed, however, is very comfortable! The bathroom is spacious and always clean. Fresh towels, soaps and shampoo are provided and replenished as needed.

The cottage has a small fridge, coffee pot, and packs of coffee available, along with all manner of dishes, water glasses, wine glasses, coffee cups, silverware, accessories and linens. The windows in the cabin open to allow fresh air, which we enjoy, and it's quiet enough to leave them open all night without disturbance. There is a bookcase full of various and interesting reads, plus magazines and games. No phone, no internet, no TV, but we like it that way. There is a hot tub available but we have never used it. There are also bikes available and we have used those to ride to nearby wineries. We love our little Sara's Cottage, we love Joe, and we wouldn't think of staying anywhere else!

We stayed at the Sonoma Chalet for one night. We were in a room without a bathroom and it costed $136 (including tax). The house is very old and is decorated with antique looking furniture. It really depends if you are into the antique style or if that creeps you out. Personally, I don't mind vintage stuff, but the bed is really too old. Every turn you make it creeks. The walls are extremely thin. I couldn't sleep well because I could hear people walking in the house late at night and early in the morning. The bathtub doesn't seem to be very clean or maybe it's just too old. We had breakfast on the porch, which was nice, although it was not a hot breakfast, just continental. Joe is nice enough but the place really needs a renovation. Expensive for what we got.

First I want to rebut the review that said the place was like out of a horror film. Completely untrue! Maybe they're afraid of the dark. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were in Laura's cottage. I LOVE the decor. True to its billing, it completely reminded me of my grandparents' place, which automatically made me feel at home. It was decorated with some gorgeous and some kitschy antiques, but it all worked together. There was a working fireplace, which we were too tired to use, but it was nice it was there. The cottage also had a little kitchen with a fridge (useful for storing our lunches that we took on hikes). The Chalet is a leisurely 25 minute walk from town (or a five minute drive). The bed was the most comfortable one on our whole vacation (we stayed two other places). Joe was very attentive during breakfast, and even left plums for us from his plum tree! If you want quiet, privacy, and a lot of space to enjoy yourselves, I highly recommend it.
