Great rooms. Must stay in the cottage. Central to both Napa and Sonoma. Located on main highway in Carneros. Nice pool and restaurant. Use the concierge services.

We stayed at the Lodge at Sonoma the week of June 11th for 5 nights and thought the grounds were lovely. The cottage room we were in could use some new carpet and a fresh coat of paint. The staff - especially the bell boys are very polite and friendly. After eating at a few restaurants in Sonoma and Napa in the past we decided to try Caneros at the Lodge. We found the service and the food excellent and ate there for two of our dinners and breakfasts. The shuttle to downtown Sonoma is a real plus and the staff are quick to drive you someplace and pick you up.
The only real negative I have besides the room needing updating is the fact there was a business conference there our last day and the group drank all night at the bar and continued their party at one of the cottages after the bar closed. The cottage buildings are fairly close together and noise really travels outside between the buildings. I called the front desk at 3am to ask them to send someone down to curb the noise. The "party" continued until 6am and at 7am I was called by Guest Services and told "there was nothing the hotel could do about the noise as the guests had refused to stop their party". As a frequent traveler for both business and leisure I found that response unacceptable. I was given 10,000 Marriott points because of the inconvience although I would have much rather had the 3 hours of sleep instead of the points!
If I stayed at The Lodge again I would request a different cottage room (not 8D)- one on the 2nd floor - and hope the other guests would be courteous enough not to party outside in the early morning hours and if they did the hotel staff would know how to put a stop to it!

My wife and myself stayed here for the first 3 days of our honeymoon. The hotel was great. We booked the "mini-romance" package which came with a bottle of sparkling wine (ended up being Gloria Ferrar Sonoma Brut), free breakfast, and a cottage room.

The cottage rooms were great - included a fireplace, a semi-private area to sit outside and relax, and a super comfortable bed. Room was spotless, no complaints whatsoever. The landscaping in the in the cottage areas is immaculate. The pool and hot tubs were nice for a dip after a day of wine tasting. Not sure I would want to stay in the Broadway building, it looks like a totally different hotel (more like a road side motel).

One negative was that they were re-modeling Carneros Restaurant while we were there, so they setup the restaurant in a room off the lobby. Not a huge inconvience other than the ambience of the room wasn't anything special. We ended up eating dinner in Sonoma as the room didn't look appealing for dinner (ate at El Dorado Kitchen and the Girl and the Fig, highly recommend both) and just had breakfast there.

The free hotel shuttle was great for going out to dinner at night and not having to worry about driving. The driver literally got out of our shuttle and went into the restaurant to tell the hostess we were there (a bit strange, but we went with it).

In the two days we toured wineries, we did an organized tour that shuttled us to Kunde, Ledson, VJB, Valley of the Moon, and St. Francis. Highly recommend the tour - the people at Kunde and VJB were the best. The other day we visited Benziger, Gloria Ferrer, Cline, and Vinassa on our own. Benziger is a good tour for the educational experience. Vinassa had some unique wines with Italian themes. The concierge at the hotel has tons of info about all of wineries including free tasting passes (thought most places we visited waive the fees if you buy something).

What an amazing stay. Even before our arrival C.J. took care of all our needs. From the wine and cheese that greeted us in our room to the recommendation and reservation for The Girl and the Fig. ( the best mussels). The cottage rooms were wonderful we stayed in building 8 on the second floor and our friends were able to get the room next door. The rooms had a fireplace with easy viewing from the tub. ( The shower area could be a bit bigger.)
My only regret was that we were unable to enjoy the spa due to time constrants. We hope to return again in October and enjoy a nice relaxing spa day then.

We had the pleasure of staying in a cottage room. Great Marriott king size bed, wonderful fireplace, very nice accommodations. Wish the bathtub was a little bigger but the shutters provided a great touch. The staff was very conscientious, always quick to offer help. The spa was nice but got a little crowded in the "fire room" which was supposed to be an area to relax and unwind before/after your spa visit. The massage was wonderful! The hotel provided a complimentary shuttle to downtown which was great. No worries about parking or driving after a couple glasses of wine.

We live about half an hour away from the Lodge at Sonoma, and had driven by several times but never stayed. That all changed last weekend, when by some miracle we managed to get all the kids out of the house for a night, and I surprised my husband with an one-night getaway. I got a room at the last minute through Priceline--only $101 for a Friday night stay, which I was very pleased with. (Keep in mind this is the "off" tourist season in the wine country.)

Upon arrival, we were greeted at the front desk with warmth and the utmost professionalism. They offered a double room, and I requested a king. I didn't have much hope, since I booked with Priceline and they seemed to be pretty full. The woman at the front desk did a little checking, and offered us a king room in the Broadway building, saying the rooms were a little larger than in the main building. We took it!

The Broadway building is named for the street it fronts. In this building, meeting rooms and a few businesses and galleries are downstairs, while guest rooms are upstairs. Our room was indeed large and well appointed, with a gas fireplace, balcony, feather comforter, and sitting area with couch and table. The TV armoire contained a refrigerator for chilling those bottles of wine you're sure to buy. The bathroom was large, with a soaking tub.

I was a little unsure about being so close to Broadway, which can get a little busy. There was a little road noise. We thought about switching rooms to the main building, but decided to stay. I'm glad we stayed, as we really weren't affected by the noise.

There is a onsite spa, which we were tempted by but ultimately decided against, because of the price factor. Instead, we went to the Sonoma Spa, which is right on the square, and has reasonable prices and excellent masseuses.

We looked at the dinner menu at the onsite restaurant, Carneros, but nothing there floated our boats that evening. We went to the square and ate at The Girl and the Fig, which I highly recommend! We did eat at Carneros the next morning for breakfast. It was a typical hotel restaurant--o.k. food, o.k. service.

The hotel isn't centrally located, but isn't way out in the boonies, either. You need a car to get into downtown or around, or use the hotel's shuttle.

All in all, we were very pleased with the Lodge. It was a very restful and comfortable stay, and we will definitely stay here again!

Stayed at the Lodge at Sonoma on Saturday, Feb. 18 as part of a bachelorette weekend. When we got there, the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, and the concierge gave us great advice, coupons, and made dinner reservations for us. We stayed in one of the cottage rooms, which was great for 4 people. We had a sitting area and fireplace, where we spent a few hours relaxing and sipping wine before dinner. The room was beautiful and very clean--no complaints. We took advantage of the The Cellar (the hotel's tasting room), and had a great time wine tasting with other guests.

Contrary to some reviews on this site, I did not find this to be a glorified motel--it is understated and simple, yes, but that is the spirit of Sonoma. A high rise resort just wouldn't fit in. Our room was nothing like a motel, it was much more high end.

We all loved it and would definitely stay here again! A great option for a girls' weekend or a romantic getaway.
