The Lodge at Sonoma was a lovely place to stay while making our way through wine country. The rooms were set up like little cottages on 2 levels. We were on a second floor and had a lovely view of the blooming trees and gardens surrounding us. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Each night there was a wine tasting hosted by a different local vineyard. There is also a nice pool and spa, neither of which I used since I was busy seeing the surrounding area. The "Navigators" aka concierges, were very helpful in recommending dining and winery excursions. Some even gave little hints about showing their cards at certain places and getting upgraded in your tasting level. The room was clean and pretty, but showed a little bit of age. They may be in the process of updating the decor but it felt a little out of date. We had some issues with our air conditioning, but maintenance quickly resolved it and the front desk made sure to follow up and check on our satisfaction. The general experience was lovely and I would recommend anyone to stay there. There were plenty of families staying while we were there, so if you are on business, a family or a romantic getaway, this resort fits your needs.

Room Tip: If you have heavy luggage, your best bet is a room on the first floor, since the cottages do not have elevators. See about getting a room with a view over the pool/yard and not the surrounding exterior area. While a pretty town, you would prefer to see the blooming foliage and not the houses across the street.

Stayed at the Lodge in Sonoma, which we thoroughly appreciated. We had the good fortune of having a French hotel navigator, Dominique, who was extremely helpful in planning trips to the wineries. She was able very quickly to get a sense of what kind of places we wanted to visit. We also enjoyed our room, the pool and and the nice "wine country atmosphere". Very nice experience.

The Lodge is conveniently located on Broadway at the other end of the street from Sonoma City Square, an easy 15 minute walk to the Square.

The lodge offers a relaxing "Wine Country" atmosphere combing typical hotel room layouts with small four-plex cottages sprinkled throughout the property. Grounds are uniquely California landscaped, with meandering sidewalks that create "uniquely singular" access to each cottage. Ground level cottages offer secluded patios while second floor cottages offer private balconies.

Hotel staff are excellent geared to provide five star service. On the Hotel grounds is Carneros, and excellent California fare restaurant with a bar and small bar menu.

Pool is geared for families, but in the later part of the evening the pool is primarily populated with adults.

Interior court is equipped with comfortable outdoor sofas and chairs. Many of the groupings have a fire. In the evenings the hotel invites local wineries to host "wine tasting" from 16:00 - 18:00. On thursday evenings the hotels has live music on the patio. The Lodge also has a bar and small "Bistro" style cafe.

Note: We were told the Lodge is under-going renovation that will upgrade all of the cottages.

This hotel is great from which to stage Sonoma and Napa Valley wine tours. The short walk to the Sonoma City Square will offer plenty of unique shopping, restaurants (Sun Flower cafe is great for breakfast) and wine tasting.

The property has a wonderful spa and health center. Strongly recommend a couples massage.

Room Tip: Definitely request a cottage for a more unique experience.

We stayed here for a wedding a few weeks ago and had a great weekend. My wife and I were upgraded to a cottage due to our Marriott status and the room was perfect. There was a small but nice fitness center and a nice pool. What keeps me from giving it 5-stars are probably minor but....
1. No free coffee in the morning. You had to purchase it at a snack bar which had inadequate staffing....long waits.
2. The pool was crowded and there did not seem to be any caring about picking up used towels or straightening out chairs.
3. Lots of griping about the $20 resort fee.
As I said, mostly little stuff....but at the prices they charge in Sonoma you would expect a little more.

Room Tip: Try to get a cottage

This was my first time to Sonoma and we picked the Lodge because of its location. This hotel has a very nice restaurant and is also located close to the town center square where there are also great choices for dining. The hotel has a shuttle running regularly. Every place we tried was good.

The room was adequate..... Nothing special. Average cleanliness and fixtures. I guess I expected a little more glamour. The staff was very friendly and the concierge helpful.
