“Great location and amenities!”
Reviewed July 6, 2014

Continuing our costal trip, spent the night here as a base camp for July 4th wine country activities. Wonderful location in the heart of Sonoma. Very friendly and helpful staff. Complimentary wine tastings. Nice pool, hot tub. Large, comfortable, clean rooms with nice little balconies and a fire place. Carneros restaurant was a big disappointment with poor service and food. I wood definitely stay here again but avoid the restaurant.

Room Tip: Request a king room with a balcony...

Rooms were nice, but not special. It was nice having a balcony to enjoy the fabulous weather. We enjoyed the wine tastings at night, and the fire pits were great to relax around in the evenings. Service around the pool was frequent and friendly.
Location was great, central to everything.
Bicycle rental was easy and available and we enjoyed that, as well as the maps they provided for the recommended ride.
The concierges were fabulous! So very helpful! Do not hit the wine tastings without stopping by to talk to those ladies first!!

We stayed here with our family over a weekend to attend some parties with friends and do a little wine tasting. Since many places were booked up or completely over-priced at the moment (seasonal thing in Napa and Sonoma) we chose to try this place. In a nutshell, it's clean and simple with some elegant touches and a really nice pool area. You do have the option of a room or a cottage. For our purposes this time we chose to do an upgraded room with two beds (since we brought kids). The room was small, simple and clean with a great balcony overlooking the pool area. The one comment I heard over and over was for the Darwin Award candidate who designed the shower. I'm certain that the builder/plumber/architect who designed this neither thought about it, nor tried it: The shower head is recessed about 12 inches back from the actual tub wall. The water pressure is inadequate, but you'll never notice because you'll be too busy breaking your toes on the tub drain which you are forced to stand on in order to actually be under the water stream. It's an indescribable experience that few have enjoyed and I wouldn't be shocked if some schmuck sues over it. Aside from that, the towels were nice, when we could get them. I've listed the pros and cons below if you just like to skip right to the point, but basically, it's a nice place in an OK location for about $150 per night and much lacking for $400. Bonus: It's pretty great for families and right across the street from Train Town - really cool for kids (and even adults who are train fanatics).

Pros: Clean, nice pool area, close to Sonoma Square, and right across from Train Town, supposedly has a nice spa (we didn't get that opportunity just yet), friendly staff.

Cons: Pool area out of towels at 11:30 on a Sunday morning, bathroom also tight on towels (4 people in room but only 2 towels), TINY double beds as opposed to actual queen size which could easily be an issue if you or your significant other weighs more than 100 pounds and, lastly, not worth the seasonal $400 + price tag (plus 'resort' fees which I hate almost as much as parking fees).

Would we return? Maybe, but only for $200 or less and ONLY with a king bed.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool are great, and folks said that the cottages were nice too.

Green Features: Don't know if the lack of towels issue might be related so can't comment

This was our 5th girls trip to the Lodge. The service is always excellent and we always receive excellent tips from the concierge for winery visits. Carneros restaurant is onsite and always amazing, creative food. The spa at the back of the resort is a must do for relaxing body treatments.

Lodging and staff were wonderful. Food was very good - but the bar was over the top. Great wine and whiskey selections. It's a short distance to the downtown Sonoma restaurants (walkable) and central to the wineries. Great place to stay. Good value and the spa was worth the trip by itself.

Room Tip: Look for an inner view room

This lovely property was full of rose blooms in late May. The cottage rooms are connected by walkways through the garden, featuring spacious bedrooms and sitting area with fireplace and wine glasses. The upstairs unit has deck with table; lower units have outdoor sitting area. The bath was well equipped with deep tub and separate shower. Good coffee available for purchase with breakfast items in lobby area. Shuttle delivers you to destinations in Sonoma, convenient for restaurant dining. For dining in there is Whole Foods in town and a good pizza place across the road that delivers. Some areas are getting attention, redoing decks and patios.

Room Tip: Lower level center of property not far from amenities

This was a beautifully landscaped property with separate cottages on site. There is a hotel area as well, but as we had two teenagers with us, we booked a cottage. Gorgeous rose bushes throughout the property, as well as various perennials that were just lovely. Great pool with comfortable lounge chairs, as well as cabana type loungers. Very good poolside service with a delicious menu. Free happy hour with great local wines, which were available for purchase. We had one breakfast in the Carneros Bistro, and that was so delicious! Coffee was excellent, homemade granola, French toast....all great! We walked through their very own herb and vegetable garden, which I wish more places had. Will definitely return on my next trip to Sonoma.

Room Tip: If you have children, book a cottage.
