Owner description: Bordered by several gourmet shops, this pretty town square is a perfect place for a picnic.

Your wife will love the shopping. Plenty of wine tasting, cafe's, or pubs to rest between shops. Several have patio dining for a bit quieter experience. Some are pricey but all are close so shop around and compare.

The square is large but easy to walk all four sides to see the boutiques and many restaurants. The 21st (and last) mission built in the CA mission system is on one corner, so be sure to take a break and visit if you like the CA missions. Shops close at 5:30-6pm, so plan your visit accordingly. Also saw a fair number of homeless folks in the park.

The Inn we stayed at in Sonoma was walking distance from the plaza. Many tasting rooms, stores and restaurants, we loved the convenience and wish we more time to explore!

Stayed in sonoma fir 2 nights and was looking forward to visiting the plaza. Total disappointment. Too many boutiques, restaurants and bars. Not to my liking. If you have a family, I wouldn't bother.

The Sonoma plaza has it all: huge ancient trees (check out the huge eucalyptus), monuments, a fountain with white ducks paddling away and lots of benches. Just a great place to relax and regroup after shopping or a place to enjoy a meal al fresco. The visitor bureau is on 1st street east. City hall, an architectural treasure is off E. Napa street. On the first Tuesday of the month, there is a farmer's market. Shops and restaurants galore line the outside of the plaza. Lots to do and see.
