“Loved our stay at the charming and magical spot”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

My boyfriend and I had a delightful stay at the the MacArthur Place Inn and Spa. We were so happy to escape from a dingy and cramped corporate hotel in San Francisco to the charm and spacious warmth of MP. Our room was upgraded when we arrived and and we could not have have been happier. Breakfast was included which was a nice addition as well. Our room was surrounded by blooming flowers and bushes---it was like a magical cottage.

Friendly staff, great room, amazing rain shower, lovely bath products, in the heart of Sonoma, a Chief Feline Officer (AJ) who will greet you when you arrive. We had some lovely massages at the spa and relaxed by the lovely pool. Honeysuckle was blooming everywhere and the grounds are glorious.
We loved it and hoped to stay there again.

We stayed at MacArthur Place for a short wine tasting weekend in Napa Valley. We were very pleased with the Inn and the premises. We loved how there were multiple buildings with approximately 4 rooms to each, surrounding the gardens with beautiful flowers. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and were a good size.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. We arrived late in the evening, after traveling 15 hours from Europe, and the restaurant was already closed. We asked at check in if there was a place near by that we could just get a glass of wine and the woman at reception offered us each a glass from the Inn, which was surprisingly good. From there the very friendly bell boy helped us with our bags to the room and offered us lots of friendly advice.
We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel on the recommendation of a friend of the family. I cannot begin to describe the appeal of the well-planned gardens and rooms that were designed to relax and soothe you. The rooms are 4 per stand-alone two-story cottages with porches/balconies that overlook the central garden square. Roses are abundant in the gardens, and walking paths meander through the space with spaces to sit and relax amid the greenery. Little tucked-away spots contained iron sculptures of flowers and modern art. There was a special area with a tall, granite-looking gurgling water fountain. A great place for a getaway in wine country. It's also within walking distance of the town square. Our room had a deep Jacuzzi bath, a shower, medium-dark wood furniture, a gas fireplace, a stereo system and a DVD player for an flat-screen TV. There are spa-style complimentary bath "tea," body lotions, shampoo, conditioner, soaps, etc. Breakfast was delightfully presented, but with average selections.

Room Tip: An upper story room with a balcony facing the gardens is ideal. We stayed in Room #65 in the "...

This beautiful estate was once my great grandfather's home when he first settled in California. Always a stately mansion to us, it continued to be a family home for generations, and as a child, I loved visiting my aunty, swimming in the pool, smelling the rose garden, sleeping in luxurious rooms, and enjoying the sumptuous food prepared by Wing and Chin, who with their children lived on the estate--their home is still there by the main house, and is now "the Garden Suite". My siblings and I played with their kids. The new owners of MacArthur Place have kept the main home looking like the original home (although the kitchen, living room, study, dining room, and parlor are now made into guest rooms) and added units that match the Victorian architecture. They have kept the charm of this historical landmark and created a wonderful place to stay in Sonoma--it still feels like a luxurious home with thoughtful amenities that add to each guest's comfort. My sisters and I stayed in a triple last year that we knew was part of the original kitchen. Then, I was lucky enough to stay in the Burris Suite, what use to be my aunty's master bedroom. My ultimate experience. Sitting on the veranda overlooking the garden and pool house took me back to those wonderful childhood days. Aunty Anna must be smiling down on MacArthur Place, where the staff are so friendly and helpful, the food still wonderful, and the home as comfortable and welcoming as it always was. Anyone wanting to stay in an authentic, historical place in the Valley of the Moon will surely be delighted with a stay at MacArthur Place--a lovely old home, steeped in history, and made new with attention to detail, touches of class and good taste, maintaining the restful and serene ambiance of by-gone days, and absolutely the best hospitality.

Thank you for the wonderful review and for sharing some of your family's history about this special place your great grandfather David Burris established here in Sonoma 150 years ago. Having the connection with the family and the history of the property has been so special for us, and it is an honor to be able to carry on the spirit of hospitality and community that was the tradition here for so many years! Mahalo!

My husband and I spent our third consecutive anniversary at MacArthur Place and Spa. Every year it is amazing and this time was no exception. We were blown away when we stepped into Room #42. From the amazing jetted tub inside the room to the teak tub and outdoor shower on own private back patio. This room has everything you would expect from a luxurious Inn, plus all the extras that make you never want to leave your room. The spa treatments are very relaxing and enjoyable and the new waiting room is very nicely decorated. Saddles Restaurant, which is located on site, is true Wine Country cuisine. Whether you are traveling from a distance or from the next town, MacArthur Place provides the relaxation and pampering that we all need.

Room Tip: For a special treat, ask for the Garden Spa Suite - It's amazing!

We had a wonderful stay at MacArthur Place in mid-April. The grounds are lovely, the service was warm and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed the spa services and pool. We will certainly stay here again. The food was good, the rooms were comfortable and we were close enough to walk almost anywhere and yet we felt like the hotel grounds were a real retreat. This is our favorite spot in the area by far.

We hosted a business event here for several days. We didn't use the spa, so this review is for the hotel only.

The staff are spectacular, so friendly. They truly seem to enjoy their work.

Beautifully appointed rooms, with every luxury. (I enjoy the Keurig one cup coffee maker with an assortment of coffees in the morning).
.
Our suite was huge with a walk-in closet area and and a fireplace.. It had a wonderful large bathroom, with a big claw foot tub and a huge open shower. Two sets of double doors, one on each side of the fireplace opened onto a huge private veranda that ran the length of the suite.

They were able to accommodate all our guests with wonderful rooms.

The grounds are spectacular...like being at a flower show. The outdoor giant chess set is fun too.

There is also a complimentary continental breakfast served every morning from 7 am to 10 am in the restaurant.

We would host here again for a memorable event for all our guests.

Room Tip: Suite #10 is upstairs. It's beautiful with a fireplace and a private veranda with several seating groups that runs the length of the building...
